Ms. Netiquette Bids Farewelll…

Dear Readers,

After over 7 wonderful years of reading and responding to your letters regarding game and chat etiquette, the time has come to bring this column to an end.

In these past 7-plus years, I’ve covered virtually every possible manners issue at least five times over, save a few “one in a millions”, and thus the decision to bring this beloved column to a happy conclusion.

You can always read the Ms. Netiquette Archives if you happen to need a quick fix during tea time.  That link takes you all the way back to 2006 when the column went weekly, but then skips ahead to 2010, so to view the years in between, you can start here: Old Pogo News Ms. Netiquette Archives.  Unfortunately -and for anyone keeping track – the first few columns before that are gone.

I started in early 2006 with just a few columns addressing a few “hot topic” concerns, and then after we realized that many players had many questions, we turned it into a weekly column in 2006.

To say a proper farewell, I feel it necessary to take a look back, so I’ve handpicked three of my favorite columns to wrap up what has been a really fun part of my job. So, without further ado, here are a few of my favorite columns from the past!

1. Is it Impolite to Use Witchcraft to Win the Game? This one was so far out of left field that this probably stands out to me as my most memorable column. It was certainly the most fun I’ve ever had researching an answer!

2. Hey Nettie, In Case You’ve Forgotten– Politeness is the Norm on Pogo! This column came at a time when I was still fairly new to the job, and had been spending a lot of time reading complaints about players.  Most importantly, it served as a pleasant reminder to me to keep in mind that most people on Pogo are already following the rules of etiquette.  It’s very easy to get jaded when all you read are complaints.  The answer to the second letter in that column caught the eye of my boss at the time, who complimented me on it, so this is one of my more memorable columns, personally.

3. Can Pogo Players Be Too Nice? This may have been the one time where both parties embroiled in an issue wrote in about the same situation. Or possibly it was unrelated, we’ll never know, but the coincidence was amazing regardless, and it was the only time in the thousands upon thousands of letters I’ve received that this sort of thing occurred.

And there you have it! Thank you all for supporting the Ms. Netiquette column over the years. It has truly been one my life’s greatest blessings to have had the honor to do this column, and I wish you all a wonderful, etiquette-filled, “use-the-mute-when-you-have-to” future!

Sincerely,

Ms. Netiquette

  • i hate to see u go. i know i didn’t read ur columns all the time but when i did i enjoyed them.

  • Ms. Netiquette, I just wanted to thank you very much for sharing all of your insight over the years. Also, I really did enjoy your list of various letters and their meaning. tyvm, Tc, hag 1.

  • Wow, for all these years I have enjoyed Ms Nettie’s columns and also the Letters to the Editor feature. I am saddened and agree with some other members the the “humanity” is leaving POGO. I understand budget cuts and even new technology, but what keeps the players coming back is the family atmosphere and the ability to contact POGO with concerns or questions. Hope you’re not going to become another “Zynga”.

  • Ms Nettie, I protest you leaving.. I love my tea and love you also. Thank you for your many years of service with pogo.. I think we should all give POGO the boot.. God bless you and yours and wishing you the very best that come’s a long the way. Hugs a tea time drinker

    • Sorry to see you go. I did so enjoy reading your column & did send a few messages that were never covered, but that was ok. You did a great job. TheQ9999

  • Best wishes to you Ms. Nettie! I’ve enjoyed your column. Hope the future is wonderful for you!!

  • Ms Nettie’s column was one of the things I truly loved about pogo, i’m so sad to see the column go. I really hate that all these companies seem to think that down sizing is the answer to all their problems, (if that’s the case here), Ms Nettie help make pogo what it is and I really think that its a mistake doing this. I really enjoy reading the column and I wish Ms Nettie all the luck in the future. You will be miss.

    • I AGREE!!!Coop expresses my feelings exactly!!! Please reconsider, Pogo! This is one of your “goofs”!

  • Why do good things all must come to an end? First Harry Potter saga ends now this too? *sighs* was fun reading all these letters each week. I looked forward to friday just for these Ms Nettie will be missed

  • I’m going to miss you, Nettie. I enjoyed your letters. Thanks you for the smiles over the years. I wish pnly the best life has to offer for you and yours. God Speed, My friend.

    • I’ve enjoyed your column and agreed and disagreed with your replies. But i still enjoyed it and will miss it.I just hope this isn’t a downhill path that EA/Pogo is on.It seems EA/Pogo are trying to milk every last penny from it’s members and i have found when companies start to do those things the end is near.Let’s hope i’m wrong ! You and your column will be missed and i hope something will change and you’ll be able to take up again the task of giving us your proper Netiquette !! Wishing you and yours the best !!

      • I agree, baddog. Pogo seems to be celebrating their “10 year” anniversary by sucking the life out of the social side of the club and sticking to the $$$ greed side like most corporations. It sounds like they are struggling for profits more than an effort to keep up a great value-added product. Like most companies who exist to give big-bucks to the top execs, they seem to have forgotten that this site is dedicated to “human beings” and is a “social club”. People are its strongest assets, not its greatest liability. When will the greedy corporate owners recognize this and support their employees like assets instead of “reorganizing” and “down-sizing” in an effort to get rid of them?

  • IMMA MISS YA NETTIE GAL….BRONXY

  • Sad to see you go. Good Luck in your new adventure.

  • Your column has always been my favorite part of POGO! Wishing you weren’t leaving, but also wishing you all the best in your future. At least since I’ve only been a Club-member/regular for 3+ yrs I have some archived columns for a few “Nettie-fixes” :)

  • will miss this column but why exactly is it ending?

  • I wouldn’t have had a clue to “netspeak” if it wasn’t for you!!! Thank You, & Good Luck in your future endeavors !!!xoxo

  • grab a good cup of earl gray Nettie and know that you will be missed in pogo by lots of pogo players hope life brings you happiness and joy in what ever you are doing now will miss you

  • So sad This is one thing I look forward to each week.

  • Say it isn’t so! No, no, no! Your column will be missed. Please, please don’t leave. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

  • Wow. The only thing I read here is going away. I guess I’ll have more time for the games…

  • Must everything on pogo change? I am putting up with new designs, new formats, but to lose you, too!! Please rethink this column. Pogo can save money someplace else, like not redesigning stuff so we all hate it.

  • Best of Luck to you Ms Nettiquette in your future endeavors……I enjoyed reading your column every week…….You will be missed………Now go and have yourself a nice cup of Earl Grey Tea…..:-)……XOXOX…….

  • I really wish pogo would continue this column. It is a very good way to vent and solve problems or address issues that all players encounter from time to time.

  • I’m so sad to say goodbye! I wish you the best in your future!

  • You will be missed. I loved your column. You and others always got the giggle out of me.

  • I will miss your column, best wishes.

  • Your column was one of my favorite things. Sorry it is gone!

  • Bright light on pogo has been put out!!

  • Tell me it isn’t so – (a late April Fools joke????) – first I look at the challenges for the week then I go find Miss Nettiquette and get caught up on the happenings among other members – I have never written but have seen myself in several of the letters presented – will truly miss reading this column every week – it has been an education in many ways – tc & GB

  • why is ea games getting rid of everything we love about pogo – there are reasons we have stayed with pogo tho prices have gone up and up and we pay to be in club but also have to pay more and more for games we want to play – and ea games seems to be adding more games all the time we have to pay for plus the badge albums – is pogo now just a money making object for ea games and not the game website we all love – maybe person who did this column is retiring but surely there must be another person at pogo that could do it – its upsetting to see a website you love go thru so many changes that your dont even remember how great it USED TO BE!!

    • See, Pogo…I’m not the only one who feels this way! Jan does too! And so do many others! Maybe you will be losing more than Ms Nettie in this decision! I agree with everything you’ve said, Jan! Pogo’s not getting better & better…it’s just getting everything it can. I’ve been a player since 1999! You’ve made a lot of improvements over that time, but lately you’ve just made a lot of changes. Am I mad? Yeah – hoppin! grrrr/ BAD Pogo = BAD!

  • When a little light goes out, we cant help but feel sad. My very best to you, may your future bring happiness, such as you have shared with us. Take Care

  • Ms. Netiquette Thank you for your many years of service with pogo.I loved reading your column and drinking tea with you..I know there is only so much you can do with the same questions and problems over and over again..I do understand good things must come to an end,and I must say you where great! I wish you all the best in life~Enjoy your (me time) for you and your loved ones,,and know in your heart you did A LOT to help others here on pogo..!!!

Thank you and bless you, you will be missed!!!

    Pogo Hugs Karyncandy29

  • Love you Nettie, God Speed.

  • dear ms. nettie

Thank you for the many columns over the years and the advice that was always so kindly dispensed. I think that’s what I’ll miss the most your innate kindness (my motto: “mute often, mute early” sometimes the mute button is a real life saver). God bless, think of us often we’ll be thinking (and missing) you. all the best, always.

  • hi anyone have problem to play pogo all game I play one game it a blank page le me no I dartqueen792

  • Dear Ms. Netiquette, I’m sad to see you go. Enjoyed your column, thank you for all your advice. Enjoy your time off, and have a cuppa tea on me.

  • Bye Ms Netiquette! I have read your column since the beginning and am very sad that you are leaving. POGO just won’t be the same without you. MUAH from all of us old timers!

  • So sorry to see you go. You will be missed. Although they say “When a door closes, a window opens” All the best in whatever you do. Hugs, God Bless Margie

  • Your leaving, is almost as sad as the day ‘Dear Abby’ left the world of the syndicated Newspaper, and retired for good.
Your Cheerful, Informative and sometimes Stern answers to our questions will be missed!
Thank you for your enlightened advice… =)

  • i’m sorry to see you go. i’m going to miss your column. I read it daily :-( good luck with your next job! :-)

  • If YOU can’t write it anymore, can’t someone else? Do you think we actually WANT to stop writing in? Hey Pogo – Please reconsider. Some things earn their keep in “other ways”. Ms. Nettie helps keep Pogo fun and our humor in tact. Bad decision Pogo – BAD! We can play games anywhere nowadays. Part of the value-for-price is the ability to speak with staff members, air our beliefs and frustrations and read a little bit about the other players and the issues THEY think about. Bad decision, Pogo – BAD decision. First you raised the rates. Then you did it again and again. Then you reduced the prizes. Then you practically eliminated them. Now you are taking away Ms Nettie? Bad decision, Pogo. BAD decision! This is a “people” site. People are important. Don’t go corporate on us. We might just go solo on you. :-( Very displeased indeed!

  • Too bad companies don’t keep the little things that make their customers happy.

  • Looked forward to your column every week, so sorry to see it end :(
Best wishes for whatever comes next in your journey!

  • Can you answer just one more thing before you go?

I was downloading games to try on pogo (June 30 2013) and web root caught two viruses from the downloads. Egyptian Ball and Magic Ball 4 games.
What I want to know is how I Win games and Pogo.com allow this or in corporate it into their games!
Does pogo not test its games prior to loading on its site for sale or use? Is this tracking virus for game use and sales manipulation? I am a regular member and was hoping to get some answers. I have been searching for a live chat window and email address to use for contacting pogo or ea. and I Win games and have surfed some 12 or more windows. Why can I not easily find it? Why does pogo NOT HAVE A DIRECT CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS?
    I couldn’t find it directly?
These pages are formulated to link back to each other and not directly to the source of what you are looking for. “Contact with the Company”. I am posting for someone to acknowledge this virus problem namely anyone from pogo or ea or I Win games.
I have proof of what I speak of and would love to let them know.
I am deeply saddened by this by a TRUSTED? WEB SITE? I HAVE MY DOUBTS NOW about buying or Trying any downloadable games by I Win or Pogo or supported by Pogo with out further investigation and have pogo.com Totally Guarantee that the games are virus and spyware FREE and GET answers that are posted for EACH MEMBER OF POGO TO SEE AND ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT. I will post anywhere that I can until someone notices and contacts me or offers an explanation to all members of Pogo as to why this happened. I have noticed in the forums as other members have experience the same thing without any answers.

    • Lately many games I have downloaded are filled with crap. I had to run my adaware and avast and system clean through them. Still get garbage, but is under control. I couldn’t get any help or answers either. Had problems with downloads I purchased years ago, pogo no longer helps, they send you to other sites and most times they can’t find your purchase, and I tell them it’s bought through pogo and send them proof, but they still don’t acknowledge the purchase. This is also my last few months with pogo, it’s changed for the worse. Many of my long time friends are gone, and this is after 12 years, lots of money and losing all I’ve earned to that point because I won’t pay to see them any more, even though they have all been PAID for.

Good luck to all who stay, continuing will cost a fortune if you want to continue with the fun or stay playing the same old games. Seems the new ones all have a price attached to them if you want to continue.

  • Dear Ms. Nettie,
A year ago, you posted my question and I was very grateful. Since then, I have looked forward to your column and insights. You have a beautiful way with words. I have had a big lesson in my real life recently as to how words can hurt. Very deeply. I am pushing forward with a project of my own which I hope will show how I feel. I will miss you very much.

  • Ms. Nettie, I like so many others will miss your column. I loved to read all the comments and the advise you gave. You were like the Dear Abbey of Pogo.
I wish you well in whatever you decide to do in life. You have been a wonderful addition to Pogo and many will miss you as I do.

  • Hey POGO – Are you reading these comments? If you want to keep members, you’d better come up with something outstanding to replace Ms Nettie and I’m not talking about some computer generated garbage. MtnGirlGTT

  • Hey POGO – Are you reading these comments? If you want to keep members, you’d better come up with something outstanding to replace Ms Nettie and I’m not talking about some computer generated garbage.

  • …good luck and be may GOD be with you in all u do.

  • EA, if this is your doing, you are making a mistake! Miss Nettie and the other personable touches are what make, (or rather MADE) POGO not only so much fun but so distinctive from other gaming sites. It was fun, friendly, and sociable. Not so much now. I no longer play as much as I used to, and am seriously considering not renewing. I used to direct many friends here, now I don’t direct any.

Miss Nettie, if you are going of your own volition, I am sorry to see you go. Well, I am sorry to see you go in any case, and I wish you the very best.

Hugs and a cuppa Earl Gray,

    Chele

  • It seems Pogo is getting rid of all avenues for the players to get some kind of help. A few months ago I tried to get help and it rerouted me to a place that wanted to charge me 99.99 to fix my computer. I stayed all day on the phone with them until 4:30 the next day there was nothing fixed on my computer and they had already taken the money out of my account. Through much fussing I got my money back but I still had all the problems that I had before. Now I can’t get my Letters From Nowhere badge and I don’t know where to turn for help. I have spend four days trying to get the badge. I have found all items for episode 1 and 2 and I still have no progress toward the badge. Help!!!!!!

  • I enjoyed your column and I am sad to see you go. Since I am a newer member to pogo, as of 2010, I will pull up the archives to see what I missed from previous years. If it is possible, I hope that you will return one day. I will always try to follow your sage advice. Goodbye and God Bless!!!
