Ms. Netiquette Bids Farewelll…

Dear Readers,

After over 7 wonderful years of reading and responding to your letters regarding game and chat etiquette, the time has come to bring this column to an end.

In these past 7-plus years, I’ve covered virtually every possible manners issue at least five times over, save a few “one in a millions”, and thus the decision to bring this beloved column to a happy conclusion.

You can always read the Ms. Netiquette Archives if you happen to need a quick fix during tea time.  That link takes you all the way back to 2006 when the column went weekly, but then skips ahead to 2010, so to view the years in between, you can start here: Old Pogo News Ms. Netiquette Archives.  Unfortunately -and for anyone keeping track – the first few columns before that are gone.

I started in early 2006 with just a few columns addressing a few “hot topic” concerns, and then after we realized that many players had many questions, we turned it into a weekly column in 2006.

To say a proper farewell, I feel it necessary to take a look back, so I’ve handpicked three of my favorite columns to wrap up what has been a really fun part of my job. So, without further ado, here are a few of my favorite columns from the past!

1. Is it Impolite to Use Witchcraft to Win the Game? This one was so far out of left field that this probably stands out to me as my most memorable column. It was certainly the most fun I’ve ever had researching an answer!

2. Hey Nettie, In Case You’ve Forgotten– Politeness is the Norm on Pogo! This column came at a time when I was still fairly new to the job, and had been spending a lot of time reading complaints about players.  Most importantly, it served as a pleasant reminder to me to keep in mind that most people on Pogo are already following the rules of etiquette.  It’s very easy to get jaded when all you read are complaints.  The answer to the second letter in that column caught the eye of my boss at the time, who complimented me on it, so this is one of my more memorable columns, personally.

3. Can Pogo Players Be Too Nice? This may have been the one time where both parties embroiled in an issue wrote in about the same situation. Or possibly it was unrelated, we’ll never know, but the coincidence was amazing regardless, and it was the only time in the thousands upon thousands of letters I’ve received that this sort of thing occurred.

And there you have it! Thank you all for supporting the Ms. Netiquette column over the years. It has truly been one my life’s greatest blessings to have had the honor to do this column, and I wish you all a wonderful, etiquette-filled, “use-the-mute-when-you-have-to” future!

Sincerely,

Ms. Netiquette

  • (((Ms Nettie))),

Your column was one of my VERY favorite things on Pogo! :)

You will be sorely missed & I really hate to see you go! :(

  • I will truly miss this column! You are a very good columnist, Miss Nettiquette. My best wishes on your next adventure and I will always remember you. Thank you so much for caring about people.

  • Ms Nettie, you and your column were my favorite “news” reads— I, too, hope this means that you are moving on to better things. I will miss your column and hope that Pogo reconsiders!!

  • i cant believe you are leaving, ive been reading your columns since you ist started them and loved your responses.you will be truely missed.i wish you the best in what ever your next adventure will be.

  • hooray!!! good riddance! Your advice was always common sense anyway.

    • I see your still coming here maude! How rude is that!
Its people like you who ruin it for others any way.
      hope you sleep well tonight

      • I will sleep fine tonight, thank you. The only people I ruin it for is the people (such as yourself) that lack commonsense and take things personally. Unless you guilty as charged … then I feel sorry for you.

    • AGREE, Not to mention how 99% of questions I learned in KINDERGARDEN

    • Ditto Maude. Just like the one post, ” I just turned 50, do I need to change rooms.” Seriously??

    • Most people don’t have common sense anymore, hence the need for Ms. Nettie’s column. Even if some of her advice was repeated.

  • maude that comment was uncalled for.may be some were down to comman sense but most were very entertaining to read.and going by the comments people have left most are sad to see her go.as the saying goes if you have nothing nice to say then dont say nothing at all.

    • if you have nothing nice to say then dont say nothing at all. <— please practice what you preach

  • OMG!!! So sorry to hear that you are leaving us :O( Just want to say, Thank you, for all
your “common sense” as maude put it…lol..geesh…but all kidding aside..thank you for your direct, no bull, honest, most-times funny advice on ALL topics.
I would always click on the News tab to see if there was anything informative that I would need to read, but then I would head on over to your column, Ms. Netiquette.
It kinda brought me back to my good ‘ole “Dear Abby” days..lol..which I truly loved.
So thanks for that too….you will surely be missed by me…Denise C. aka kitten20486

  • Dear Ms Nettie,
I have been a pogo member sine its onset, but not under this nic. I have kept both accounts active and have followed your posts from time to time. The simplicity of what you say in response to many of the inquiries is unique in that you do not just randomly take sides. It appears as if you evaluate, and view the topic from more than one side which builds the foundation of integrity of your column when trying to respond to the normal questions and the weird ones as well. Your professional approach, responses, and rational advice will be missed.
Thanks for helping to make Pogo a better place.

    ImShamelessss,
    PartingDaBush

  • With your wise and witty remarks,I know whatever you do,you will do it with all the grace you have given here. God bless you and yours.

  • So sorry, and sad, to hear this news. I will miss Ms. Netiquette as well as reading and enjoying the column. I wish you the best in whatever endeavors come your way. Thank your for your hard work, patience, advice, and dedication.

  • Nettie,
you will be missed by many of us here. I wish you the Best, in what endeavor you may choose.
I believe you were our only VOICE, that many of us had, we will miss u so so much.
Don’t have a clue as to what will happen now here on pogo! Your wittiness, was a change
& you replied to many questions, more so than most!
WE WILL TRULY MISS YOU, MANY ARE READY TO LEAVE WITH YOU, POGO HAS BEEN GOING DOWN HILL
SINCE THESE NEW OWNERS TOOK OVER. They have a good person in you and there messing that up too!
Good Luck to you Miss Nettie,
    GOD BLESS YOU & YOURS

  • Oh my, this column has been my Friday guilty pleasure. MUST. HAVE. TEA.

  • Yours is the only column I read.. and I will miss it greatly! Your advice, always with a touch of humor is a true joy to read! I wish you will in whatever you do in the future!

  • Dear Ms. Nettie,

I just wanted to add my voice to the hundreds of other Pogo fans who very much appreciated your work for the Pogo community. Thank you for an always entertaining and informative column. While some may say it was “only” common sense, unfortunately, good sense does not seem to be all that “common” anymore! I appreciate that you did such a diplomatic and, yes, polite job of passing on your good sense, and I appreciate that Pogo felt it was important enough to have the column run as long as it did. I am glad they are keeping the Archives available, too. Ms. Nettie will live on in our hearts AND on Pogo forever. Good luck to you and thank you again.

  • Nettie… hate to see you go! But you know best. I’d never sent you a letter about any problems that I’ve had on pogo, but one that comes to mind is the “REPLY TO ALL” button on pogo mail. I think it would be best if pogo removed the button as so many of the elderly that play pogo uses it too often and it causes problems when the mail gets sent backwards and clogs up the mail boxes with undue mail that was sent forward and should be sent forward again and again. It would be nice if you could find time in your final days to show this to your bosses, LOL!! Take care of yourself wherever life sends you and come and visit us from time to time, you would be welcome anytime…

  • I am very saddened to hear that you are leaving, and that your column will no longer be around. I am sure, of one thing, you will be missed by the majority of pogo fans, and that where ever your tea cup lands, you will use your humor and wittiness to progress onward in whatever your choices may be. I would have loved to have known you in “real life” rather than virtual world, I think we would have been great friends. I’ll have an Earl Grey from time to time in your honor although it isn’t my favorite. Wishing you Godspeed and his Grace to guide you.

  • Now maybe POPGO will spend more time introducing UNIQUE games, like CONFLICT.

    • While I definitely agree 100% Pogo most certainly should focus on more unique and original games (and focus on fixing what is already broken instead of continuing to break even more things that didn’t need fixing or changing in the first place) don’t hold your breath. There is another “new” game coming but it’s just a re-package of another Slingo game. I personally think the good days of Pogo are long behind us. It’s easier to put the re-packaged Pop Cap and other games on the site and continue with the cash cow hidden object games than it is to develop new content.

  • Yet another great thing about Pogo gone.
It’s becoming more and more difficult to justify renewal.

    • I agree. We pay more and more and get less and less.

    • I sadly agree with you, just another disappointment in the way Pogo have been the past few years. Renewal is really becoming hard to justify, and did notice fewer players signing in.

  • So sad to see ya go. The columns may have been just common sense, but the longer I’m on Pogo, the less of it I see, lol. I’ll tip my cuppa PG Tips to ya, you’ll be missed.

  • I have used your column as a reference in the war to stay ahead of two teenagers online and even worse on FaceBook and the other social medium I must now go on and learn on my own. Your kindness and manners especially drew me to you since I am from the south where some of us are still taught to always try to be polite. You have educated me in so many columns. I printed out the abbreviations annually as a necessary reference to try to raise my boys right. I thank you for empowering me to turn off or ignore chat if I really had no time for it and also just needed a quiet time for me. That lesson is the one that I value the most! Even if I only had time to scan your column, I always at least checked the header to see if it pertained to my life in any way. I read it whether I think it pertains or not because I probably will learn something or get a good laugh. I could go on forever so I will let you go since you are leaving us and probably have deadlines to meet. Please know that you will be so missed and let us know where we might see your future work since so many of us play other places also.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • The only reason I come in Pogo News is to enjoy this column. You will be sadly missed.

  • Liked you column. Hope your next endeavor is as much a success.

  • Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…….please don’t go!!!!! A nice cold drink and your column were the two things I looked forward to every Friday night after a very loooooooong (but rewarding) work week. You will be missed.

  • A very sad farewell to you, I will miss your charm, style and above all your very considerate replies to so many varied questions. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors and smile, you have done a wonderful job here for your many fans on POGO…:-)

  • So sorry you are leaving. I enjoyed reading your column and loved your sense of humor. Will missed my weekly tea-time with you. I wish you all the best for the future. You will be missed by many.

  • Say it isn’t so! I look forward to your words of wisdom and advice along with a wry sense of humor. I don’t understand why Pogo continues to cut back (no new games except retreads from other sites, trial versions, and the odious pay to play games. And now this.

What’s next, no news or information at all? The forum is nice, but I prefer the professionals to who knows who’s posting.

You’ve brought civility to some of the uncivilized and despite what you think, there’s always a new wrinkle for you to address. I hope Pogo comes to its senses and restores the weekly column (along with some nice tea leaves for you).

    • I agree with you whole heartedly! I liked it when one member called her The Mother of Pogo lol
Kind of a SHOCK to read that Miss Nettiquette is leaving. I have grown fond of reading her blog lol Another GREAT Feature of Pogo Gone! {{SIGH}}…

  • I wish you the best of luck in whatever the future holds in store for you and will miss your weekly chats with us. It’s been a pleasure over the years to read your witty no-nonsense remarks. And your “common sense” advise was always welcome because sense isn’t always so common. Thank you!

  • Ms. Netiquette, You and your entertaining & informative column will be missed deeply. The only bastion of common sense mixed with the wafting fragrance of a deliciously brewed cup of tea. I wish you well. Thank you for sharing your most memorable articles, and imparting a fine lesson or two in good manners. Well done!

  • Thank you Ms. Nettie for sharing your wisdom with us. You have been the unofficial referee on POGO. You will be greatly missed. One more thank you for sharing a last cup of tea with us.

  • This is truly awful!! Will miss Ms. Netiquette!! One more thing Pogo has done wrong! If you are retiring, then I wish you all the best! However, I wish this column could still be here! Used to look forward to Fridays, just to read your column. Thanks for all your advice, but Pogo really needs to smarten up!! I think people are leaving in droves, due to the Java problem. I have updated my Java to the newest update, but I DO computer maintenance & I really feel sorry for those that don’t know how to do this & are having problems. I’ve been there–couldn’t get into games–but not on the magnitude that some are experiencing–so I understand! Wish I could help them, but don’t know how to, other than what’s been stated. Good Luck, Pogo Nettie!! Thanks for your all your insights!

  • I’m a cranky old timer on Pogo, but I sure did love reading Ms. Netti. I join the ranks of folks hoping this is leading to bigger and better things for you. You’re quite a good writer and researcher, and I’ve learned a lot from your replies over the years.

    Best wishes and God Bless.

  • Sorry to say I didn’t read the column all that much, but I see where POGO once again is going down the tubes! Each time I sign on, I see fewer and fewer folks on line. What’s next, the Tiki brothers? Spike?

  • I have really enjoyed your columns. wish you well

  • Miss Nettie,

I’ve really enjoyed your column and your unique style of writing. Fun-loving, sincere, honest, clever, even sassy…you! Your column brought a sense of commaraderie on Pogo. It’s hard to believe you’re leaving as we now have to “fend for ourselves” when the goin’ gets tough! You are a Human Relations Specialist!

My very best to you as you now move on to new adventures.

    God Bless!

  • Like a lot of others, your news was the only news I read. TO learn something and to have a good laugh. It is a shame that Pogo got sold and now everything good about it is going away. You were one of the BEST parts of the OLD POGO….

  • I will also miss reading your column, like to read the andswers or solutions certain that are pertintent at times.thanks so much for your help and advice

  • NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Say it ain’t soooooo!!!

    Ms.Netiquette,
You are the ONLY reason I read the POGO News.
Over the years, you’ve made us laugh and cry. You’ve all so educated not only myself, but countless others.(not only with your advice, but you’ve educated us on TEA!!!…Earl Grey…what else…) You will be sorely missed. We wish you wouldn’t go. I think I speak for…I can’t say everyone, there are those pesky nay-sayers out there….but for the majority…we wish you all the best and hope you have a comforting “retirement”,just sitting back watching the sunset with your cup of Earl Grey.
Thanks Ms.Netiquette for all you’ve done and given.
    Much love to you.

  • You’ve done a wonderful job with your informative, enlightening, and frequently hilarious column feature! Thanks for being there and best of luck to you in the future, no matter what you do!

  • Thanks 4 all the fun over the years,,,,wishing u the best :)

  • Awwww! I’m so sorry you are leaving! But, best wishes in your future. May you always have sunshine on your shoulders and the wind at your back. Blessings!

  • Nettie…ditto all the positive caring comments shared by so many of your Pogo fans in your honor…all very much deserving in my humble opinion. Let me continue adding to my voice as I am one longtime Pogo Club member who very much appreciated your dedicated work for the Pogo community. You are an exceptionally good columnist & researcher too…thank you for an always entertaining and informative column. While some may say it was “only” common sense, sadly & very unfortunately, good sense does not seem to be all that “common” anymore! I appreciate that you did such a polite and many times very diplomatic job of passing on not just your good sense but your insight and wisdom…and I always loved it when you shared with us your witty humor side. It was good of Pogo to realize the column was important enough to have it run as long as it did….I just hate that it’s ending…yet as that old saying goes “all good things must come to and end”…even tho I disagree with that old saying ;-) I am glad they are keeping the Archives available at least. Please know you Ms. Nettie will live on in our hearts & here on Pogo forever! It was great having you share your most memorable articles thank you also for that…a fantastic ending as we would expect to see/read coming from you. You will be sadly missed! Your column was truly a job WELL DONE! My best wishes on your next adventure…I will fondly remember you and your caring about people. I sure hope this means that you are moving on to better things, however I will miss your column and like some others I hope that Pogo reconsiders if that meets within your professional as well as personal desires too. Whatever the future holds for you dear heart…I trust your next endeavor is as much a success as this one was…wherever your tea cup lands & for whatever your choices might hold for your future…I wish you continued happiness & much success…God’s Blessing and His Grace to guide you in your journey. Let me finally end by adding that I don’t think I’ll ever drink a cup of brewed tea without thinking about you, especially if I’m having your favorite Earl Grey ;-)
    Lots of Luck,
    Shetrees

  • As I have only been with POGO for almost 2 years, but I will truly miss your column very much. Always lookesd forward to your tips and wisdom.
    Many blessings,

    bettyjtuck44

  • I’ll miss your column…wishing you the best

  • I am so sorry to see you go. I wish you would reconsider. Or is it Pogo just trying to cut corners again and save money. Whatever, enjoy retirement and have a great day. Sure will miss you tho. I wish you all the best in whatever you endeavor to do.

  • There isn’t much left for me at Pogo anymore and your departure adds to my sadness and disappointment with Pogo. Of course I wish you the very best in your next endeavor, but from a selfish point of view, I will be at a loss without you. Thank you for giving of yourself throughout these years. Your help and advice has been invaluable. Missing you already!

  • This is just another typical decision for pogo/ea. They can’t figure out how to charge people gems to access Nettie’s column, so they don’t want to “waste” money paying someone to work on a column that is offered to their members for “FREE”. Heaven forbid anything offered for free on here. Any new games on here either have a price on them or they are recycled from another game site.
I can add this to my list of pogo disappointments which is becoming very long, very quickly. Can pogo/ea big wigs not see the writing on the wall?
Thank you for all the great columns Nettie!

  • I’m gonna miss your advice and you are very entertaining. Best wishes and good luck in whatever you do.

  • What’s next???

  • Ah, Ms. Netiquette (since we have not been personally introduced, I don’t feel I can call you Ms. Netti even though I’ve spent many hours in your company over the past several years via your column), how I will miss you. Your column has, over the years, made me laugh, cry, say “Oh my gosh”, and think twice about my own behavior and opinions. Truly one of my favorite items on the Pogo website.

Wish your retirement to be full of warm, sunny places with never ending cups of Earl Grey filling your cup.

  • Here’s wishing you all the best things in life….I hope you enjoy your retirement…I will miss reading your column every week and I thank you for all the enjoyable columns you have written through the years.

Sadly, I see that the complainers have again taken over a spot that should be reserved for well wishes for Ms. Nettie. Shame on you, have you really nothing better to do with your time?
