Ms. Netiquette Bids Farewelll…

Dear Readers,

After over 7 wonderful years of reading and responding to your letters regarding game and chat etiquette, the time has come to bring this column to an end.

In these past 7-plus years, I’ve covered virtually every possible manners issue at least five times over, save a few “one in a millions”, and thus the decision to bring this beloved column to a happy conclusion.

You can always read the Ms. Netiquette Archives if you happen to need a quick fix during tea time.  That link takes you all the way back to 2006 when the column went weekly, but then skips ahead to 2010, so to view the years in between, you can start here: Old Pogo News Ms. Netiquette Archives.  Unfortunately -and for anyone keeping track – the first few columns before that are gone.

I started in early 2006 with just a few columns addressing a few “hot topic” concerns, and then after we realized that many players had many questions, we turned it into a weekly column in 2006.

To say a proper farewell, I feel it necessary to take a look back, so I’ve handpicked three of my favorite columns to wrap up what has been a really fun part of my job. So, without further ado, here are a few of my favorite columns from the past!

1. Is it Impolite to Use Witchcraft to Win the Game? This one was so far out of left field that this probably stands out to me as my most memorable column. It was certainly the most fun I’ve ever had researching an answer!

2. Hey Nettie, In Case You’ve Forgotten– Politeness is the Norm on Pogo! This column came at a time when I was still fairly new to the job, and had been spending a lot of time reading complaints about players.  Most importantly, it served as a pleasant reminder to me to keep in mind that most people on Pogo are already following the rules of etiquette.  It’s very easy to get jaded when all you read are complaints.  The answer to the second letter in that column caught the eye of my boss at the time, who complimented me on it, so this is one of my more memorable columns, personally.

3. Can Pogo Players Be Too Nice? This may have been the one time where both parties embroiled in an issue wrote in about the same situation. Or possibly it was unrelated, we’ll never know, but the coincidence was amazing regardless, and it was the only time in the thousands upon thousands of letters I’ve received that this sort of thing occurred.

And there you have it! Thank you all for supporting the Ms. Netiquette column over the years. It has truly been one my life’s greatest blessings to have had the honor to do this column, and I wish you all a wonderful, etiquette-filled, “use-the-mute-when-you-have-to” future!

Sincerely,

Ms. Netiquette

  • Ty for the words of wisdom over the years. I felt a lot of humor and more in your replies. I never wrote b4 but I wanted to now. Wishing the best in your future and when I was a new member in 2006, I was happy to know about the mute button!

Your diction was impeccable and much appreciated it this day of editing a story seems to have disappeared leaving terribly written stories in its wake. Thanks for the link to the 10 most memorable columns and the trip down memory lane as I read them. Take care and God Bless.

Live well, laugh often, love with all your heart!
Happiness is a voyage, not a destination, there is no better time to be happy than NOW!
    Live and enjoy the moment.
and for a smile: Even at a Mensa convention, someone is the dumbest person in the room. LOL

  • please pogo rethink loosing this column. i so look forward to fridays just to read what the column is about this week. it has given me many laguhs, good advice and helpful hints. sounds like so many dont want it to go away. please have someone else write it if the current writer chooses not to continue. this is acutally one of the reason i continue my membership

  • NO, NO Please don’t go !!! I love Ms. Nettie.

  • Though I read your column often, I can’t see it going further. Many have been repeat ‘problems’ and the advice repeated over and over, I also found this column mostly useless cause much what people needed advice on were always solved by common sense, so I guess there was an over abundance of senseless people.
They gave me chuckles, but mostly ‘oy’ves’. Thanks for the years of entertainment. It was on the same line as Dear Ann and Abby.
Good luck on your new path.

  • sigh.. gonna miss the netie dept. it was one of the only places to discuss anything without being deleted by someone just because they personally don’t like you. at least here it was a 2 sided discussion. not a bunch of select few parroting each other!

    • I’m going to miss this column. It’s provided me with laughs, warmth, confirmation that I’m not alone, and the realization that some people have it much worse than I do. It’s been the bright spot in many of my weeks. We love you, Nettie! I’ll have a cup of ginger tea to console myself.

  • I will really miss this column, and I am so sorry to see it and you go. It was always a fun read, and was also informative. You answered a letter of mine, and I was thrilled to see it in print. Your answer was spot on. The best of luck to you in the future.

  • I don’t know how I missed the column on witchcraft. Ms. Netiquette will be missed.

  • You’ll be missed Ms Netiquette! ♥

  • Ms. Netiquette, I will truly miss the warmth and humor of your comments and am sad to see your column go. I only became a regular reader of your column over the last year, and hope that I can truly look up past articles for your wisdom. I wish you the best.

  • I’m gonna miss you. This column has been very helpful. It would be nice if pogo rethinks ending it. If not, thank you for all the great advice.

  • Truly enjoyed your column over the years! The archives is where we must go- when we need a fool proof suggestion to resolve or explain an issue- thank you for your wisdom!!!

  • Oh, Ms Nettie aka Pogo Tahd?! I never knew that! Awww, you definitely will be missed, including being our Amazing Mini contest judge! So sorry to see you leaving :( Again, I wish you the very best in future and if it’s due to retirement as it seems to be mentioned in other comments, then ENJOY it and be good to you!! ☼

  • well she never answered any letters from ppl living in australia so glad is going ppl who write in these columns are like little childrean telling tales on someone else even if your too lazy to work out btw the player that is annoying you or simply mute them instead you come to this column and air out your problems “freedom of speech”

  • I will miss your column. Best wishes for all you choose to do in your future. And thank you for all you have done here on pogo.

  • Oh Ms. Netiquette:

No more tea time with thee,
It’s so sad I’m going to be.
    I’ll remember our cheers,
    Our laughs and our tears,
And I’ll try not to feel all at sea!

  • Hers was the first thing I would read every week am so sorry to see it end. Hope you are moving on to bigger and better things!!!

  • I’m sorry to see you go …YOU WILL BE MISSED

  • Sorry to see you go. I looked forward to your column every week and will miss it. Hope you are going onward and upward and I hope you get tea breaks whenever you want them. Think of your Pogo fans often.

  • Miss Ms. Netiquette? Why, no! I don’t think I missed a single column that was printed. I learned important tips for handling situations in chat, quick tips for getting out of sticky situations, and hilarious tips just for the fun of it. Oh, yes, and there were those times when I just steamed when the same question came up in the fortieth different version. Ms. Netiquette has definitely been one of the brightest spots of the Pogo weekly lineup and I am sorry to see the column end.

  • Why, Pogo, Why? Really? I will miss this column so much and all of the other benefits that Pogo has decided to withdraw. You need to rethink your actions as we PAY for this service.
Is this due to the EA financial issues? I fear that all Pogo members/players are in jeopardy.

  • I am so sad that you will be gone Ms. Netiquette, but you leave a great legacy behind. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

  • Just another way Pogo is cutting back & closing off from us. Anybody try to contact them lately?

  • I just love this column. She will be sorely missed and I wish they would re-think this. It has been just a wonderful thing just to click on this and read from sweet, weird, ugly, needy, friendly and poor laughable people. You will be missed.

  • goodbye Ms. Neti …

  • Oh no! So sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed reading your column. Yes, Netiquette here is critical. You’re a terrific writer. Yes, I’m a writer too and I know it ain’t always easy. Do you have to leave? Take care, aurevoir,Mme. Netiquette.

  • I’m so sad to know you will no longer be communicating with us and giving good advice for some who get into difficulties with others here in POGO land you will be missed.

  • Oh no! I’m so sad to hear that you’re not going to be writing for us anymore, Nettie. I LOVE this column, I look forward to reading it every Friday. You will be so missed. =o(

  • I will miss the chance to giggle at some of the more outrageous “violations” encountered by our Pogo family. Thank you for your wisdom, your humor, your empathy. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

  • I looked forward to reading Miss Netiquette every week and will really miss this column. Thanks for the years of wonderful advice and all the humor that went with it. Your advice will be missed.

  • rude people will now say ‘Netties gone so we can do what we like’, please POGO dont let her go.

  • Oh No!! Just got into Pogo first time on Friday and the first thing I do is go to your column. I was shocked to hear that you no longer will be with us. We will miss all your advise and tea times and crumpets. Take Care. I hope this is what you wanted to do and not forced out by Pogo. GB and GL (A 1,000 Badge Member)

  • Rabbit has always delighted in the hoppiness and keen observations you took such care and effort to provide for us peeps in Pogoland. You will be dearly missed and, as a Rabbit, he considered you a honorary bunny because of your friendly wisdom and clever insight. He hops you always find a hoppy trail to hop along in all your future pathways.

  • You will be missed here. Your column was one I always looked forward to. But I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

  • Many thanks to you, Ms. Netiquette, for all of your advice over the years. It is very sad to see this column go as it has been my very first stop on Friday mornings. I wish that Pogo would reconsider dropping this column because I know it has helped many of us understand sometimes subtle or not-so-subtle things that were actually a violation of the TOS, which many might not have read recently or at all.

Sigh. It seems Pogo is changing everything just like Las Vegas, a city which is known for change.

  • Wow…I certainly will miss your column! I can’t say I have read every one-guess I will have to go back and check them out when I need an etiquette fix:) Surely have appreciated your humorous and sage advice over the years. Farewell and God Bless you!!!

So…someone said that pogoTahd writes this column…is that so? Just curious. In any case…well done and thanks!!

  • What is next, the editor? Then what?
Little by little everything is disappearing, I’ll be surprised if Pogo is still in business in 1 or 2 years, 3 being generous.

  • Who else is going to be able to pull all the players together and enjoy a “cup-pa” while reading your column. I have enjoyed reading your columns all these years and am going to miss your replies that mainly reminded people to be polite to one another. Please come back as a guest columnist once in a while so we can all say hello.
