Wordle is a straightforward “code breaking” game in which the objective is to guess a five-letter word. After each guess, any letters which aren’t in the word at all will turn gray in color. Any letters which are in the word but in the wrong position will turn yellow, while those in the proper position will turn green. Players have six tries to guess the target word. Only one unique Wordle is generated each day, thereby ensuring that players are competing on a level playing field when it comes to comparing player performance. Wordle can trace its roots to the popular 1955 pen-and-paper game Jotto as well as the television game show franchise Lingo.
PogoTM features a wide variety of word games you can try for free, many of which will appeal to fans of Wordle. Here’s a brief summary of some of them.
1. A Way With Words
In A Way with Words, you’ll place colored letter chips one at a time on a board in order to form words that are at least three letters long. Words can be forward or backwards, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or even “inside” of other words. For example, spelling ‘SPAT’ will give you credit for ‘SPAT’, ‘PAT’, ‘TAP’, and ‘TAPS’. Bonus points are earned for any word whose letters are all the same color. To complete a level, you’ll need to complete the required number of words before you run out of letters. Unlike many word games, an individual letter need not be placed next to existing letters; it may be placed anywhere on the board. Additionally, several single-use aids are available to help maximize your word count!
Success when playing Wordle requires players to think about how the same group of letters can create different combinations, and that is exactly what is required in order to rack up big scores in A Way With Words.

2. Crossword Cove
Crossword Cove offers a new free online crossword puzzle every day. In a fun twist on the traditional crossword puzzle, some of the word spaces contain a starfish; correctly guessing one of these words will award you a powerup that can be used to reveal the most common letters remaining in the puzzle. Flexibility is the name of the game with Crossword Cove; there are three difficulty levels, and if you’d rather not play with the added pressure of a timer, just turn it off.
The “one unique new puzzle per day” element of Crossword Cove should appeal to fans of Wordle, especially when it comes to establishing bragging rights!

3. Word Whomp
In Word Whomp, you must form as many words as you can from a group of six letters before the clock runs out. To score points, your words must be at least three letters long, but the longer they are, the more points you’ll score. At the top of the screen, you’ll see placeholders for all possible valid words; if you fill in one of the words listed in gold, you’ll score bonus points. In case you get stuck, you can click the Mix Up button to put your letters into a different order, which just might help you pick out a few more words.
As is also the case with both Wordle and A Way With Words, scoring well at Word Whomp demands that players be able to consider how the same group of letters can combine in different ways. In addition, Wordle fans will appreciate knowing the exact number and length of all of the level’s target words.
4. Tumble Bees
In Tumble Bees, you must spell as many words as you can find by linking adjacent letters on the game board. The letters drop continuously from above and will settle into the shortest available column. The longer the game goes on, the faster new letters will drop onto the board. Valid words must be at least two letters long, and words made with green tiles will score extra points. In any case, the longer the word, the more points you’ll score. If you’re able to guess the level’s Buzz Word, all of the tiles will turn green, providing you with many bonus points. The game ends when unused letters fill the board, or when you reach the number of points required to complete the level. If you spell three words that are five or more letters long, you’ll trigger the bonus round, in which you’ll earn even more points if you spell at least three more words that are at least five letters long.
This should hold a great deal of appeal for Wordle fans, who are used to thinking in terms of five-letter words from the get-go.
