Blog Post #112 – August 27, 2019

Hello Pogoians!

We’re just a few days away from the official 20th birthday of Pogo, and the celebrations are still going strong! I’m so excited to be celebrating this milestone with the amazing Pogo community. I’ve been with Pogo for almost three years now (in September!) and have been following Pogo since the early 2000s when my great-aunt showed me her favorite new game, which was on Pogo! I have so much appreciation for you all and am happy to share in this joyous occasion with you. If you’d like to know what is coming up for the rest of the 20th celebration of Pogo, please click here.

Claire Hart

New Claire Hart: Secret in the Shadows episodes are coming soon. Here’s Pogo Rachael to tell us what we can expect.

“This upcoming release of Claire Hart: Secret in the Shadows features two new cases for you to play; one is a little more serious, as it’s a murder mystery with Troy, Sara, and Will. The second case is just one episode, but it’s really special to me.

My mom is a big fan of Pogo, and she really likes playing Claire Hart. When we updated the game, I made a little nod to my parents in it: Claire and Troy’s cats are named after my mom and dad’s cats, in fact. A few months ago, however, the real-life Viola passed away. She was nearly 19 years old, which is a fine age for a cat, but it was still quite painful to lose her. A few days after Viola passed away, one of my cats, Emilio, passed away just shy of his third birthday. Losing a pet is always incredibly difficult; they are our companions and confidantes, and they’re often there for us in very tough times. I wanted to think of a way to commemorate both cats with a special storyline in an episode of Claire Hart, and the story that’s coming up is my way of paying tribute to their memory.

Don’t worry, though: the game version of Viola is just fine, and the story coming up soon has a happy ending.

The episode about Claire’s cat is called “Precious Paws” and it’s located in Case #19, called “Cat-Tastrophe.” That episode will also be available for Club Pogo Subscribers to play at no additional cost! I really hope that you enjoy it, and I hope that perhaps it gives you an opportunity to reminisce about some of the special pets you’ve had in your life. Thanks for playing!”

Here is a glimpse of the “Valiant Viola” badge.

  • Internet Explorer 11  is no longer supported for HTML 5 games. Please note the messaging on the HTML 5 games. It reads like this:

  • Flash and Java Retirements – Java and Flash, two technologies that have powered Pogo games for many years, are being phased out across the internet. Support for Java has already been dropped from most web browsers, and Flash support will be discontinued by 2020. Pogo and EA have no control over this change in web technology. Because of this, Pogo is retiring some of the older Flash-based games from Pogo on October 8. (Please note the date change)

    • For games that retired on July 30, please click here.

We know some of you purchased Challenges for these games you have not had the opportunity to complete. If you don’t get them done before they retire, the Badges will be automatically awarded to you shortly after the games retire.

Please note that while these games are going away, there is always the possibility some will be updated and brought back later. Keep your eyes on the Pogo Insider for more game news!

Every week I answer a non-technical question related to Pogo. We get lots of questions every week, so I try to focus on common themes or the same question coming from different folks. Please ask your non-technical related question in the comments section of the blog.

(For technical issues, please go to Pogo’s Help Page.)

Q. What is happening to Tournaments?

A. I hear you, folks. I know a lot of you are wondering what is going on with Tournaments, as several games have been updated and are no longer part of the Tournaments system. Unfortunately, I don’t have any updates on Tournaments at this time, but will let you know as soon as I do. As always, I let the team know, so stay tuned to the Pogo Insider for future updates.

Again, I want to say Happy 20th Birthday to this fabulous place called Pogo. If you haven’t done so already, please visit the forums to share your favorite Pogo memories with the community!

Happy Pogo 20th!

  • Good Afternoon Pogo_Llama,
I to was “turned on” to pogo back in 2001 by a co-worker, no less. 3 years as a non member, then someone sent Me a Guest Pass and the rest was history. Some pleasant and some not so pleasant changes, but that’s life right.
I’m just here today for a Great Big Thank You to Pogo for putting all the Gem Mini Mall Items up for Free Today. I collected 365 today, 4&1/2 pages of dogs and I dont even own 1, lol. I told a bunch of my friends about it and 1 got 668 Free.
It was unexpected and I am very grateful!!!!!

    tc Rich

    • Haha this is all so awesome. Thank you for sharing this with my, bkpticecutter! I’m so happy you’re happy and a part of Pogo. Have a great day, especially with the Mini Mall!

  • Congrats on 20 years Pogo.

just asking why do some of my badge albums
not show all completed badges in them?

    • Hi Miladylc56,
Happy 20 years to Pogo to you too!
Could you please let me know which albums you’re not seeing as complete?

  • Will definitely be saving my gems for those cat badges! Super excited for that! Also looking forward to the mini-show. I’m absolutely loving the new Addiction Solitaire! I look forward to others I might’ve loved coming back all new and shiny in the future. :)

    • Hi Rawrnoozle,

Those cat Badges are soooo beautiful, right?! I can’t wait for them as well. I love the art and the Challenges.
Happy Pogo 20! See you at the Mini Show!

  • games have been awesome ! Thank you so much. ts been a blast

  • I am confused, please help me. I ordered a new windows 10 9th generation,12GB WHAT GAMES will I be able to play in pogo? none? no java no flash..What is there? is Pogo going out? My renewal comes up oct. if I cant get any answers I am going to cancel.

    • Hi Jazz174227,

Thanks so much for your question.

Rest assured, Pogo is not leaving. We’re here to stay and are currently working on expanding our HD game catalog for the community to enjoy for years and years to come.

So what is going on with Java and Flash, you may be asking? Well….these two technologies that have powered Pogo games for many years, are being phased out across the internet. Support for Java has already been dropped from most web browsers, and Flash support will be discontinued by 2020. Pogo and EA have no control over this change in web technology. That is why we’re creating all of our new games in the HTML 5 (HD) format.

Please take a look at our HD games and you may find many new favorites.

Thank you for being a part of Pogo!

  • Happy 20th Birthday Pogo. Thank you for all the challenges, free badges and discounted items. I’ve finished all my challenges. It has been so fun working on each challenge. I would like to ask if you would please bring back Hearts. I miss playing Hearts. If you do bring it back I would like to ask a favor please make it so you can advance in rank playing against robots. It would be nice if all the games can be changed so you can advance your rank playing against robots. Thank you. Here’s to many more years of fun playing Pogo. :)

  • What was the game your Great Aunt loved so much? :)

The first game I ever played was Poppit!, back in 2001.

  • pogo_llama
i am so looking forward to the cat badge collection since i am a cat person

  • The flash retirement date article says they’re retiring on October 8th not October 31st.

    • That is correct. Thanks, Blysse!

      • I googled it on the retirement date…it says the FLASH will end on December 31, 2020. So I am not sure which one….October 8 of this year or next year on December 31, 2020?

        • Hello Susie,

Sorry for any confusion. Yes, Flash is set to end on 12/31/2020, however if you click here, you will see the list of Flash games that will no longer be a part of Pogo on October 8. Thank you.

  • THANK YOU! for bringing back Pogo Addiction Solitaire, I’ve missed not being able to play it, and am happy to be playing it again. Just a suggestion, the music sounds sounds a little sleezy. Other than muting the sound, can we have music options?
I hope many other older games come on board soon. :-D

  • When will these episodes for Claire 2 be out?

    • Hi Comet,
They will be out in September :)

      • TYTY, I AM STARTING TO GET INTO THE CLAIRE 2.. I LOVE MURDER MYSTERY.. CAN WE GET SOME SPOOKY ONES FOR CLAIRE 2?

LIKE SPOOKY EPISODES WITH SOME GHOST ICONS OR SOMETHING?

  • I wanted to personally thank you for “re-adjusting” the Sweet Tooth Town requirements for the Birthday challenge.

The new Pogo Addiction Solitaire game is fantastic, and probably one of my favourites right now. Loving this game immensely.
    Thank you

  • Will you adding levels to poppit party?

    • Hi lrea118!
Thanks so much for asking about Poppit! Party. Unfortunately there are not plans to add new levels to the game at this time. However, there’s always a chance in the future. Have you collected all the costumes?

  • Thanks for letting us get individual badges for state birds, flowers, etc. Re Poppit! Bingo I have as request. I have more tickets than I could ever use, but I do not know how many I have. What I can see is 44007 & a smidge of the number before the first 4. There may be 1 or 2 numbers before that 4. Either the ticket icon is to big or the numbers are. The cash numbers are smaller so can see the million plus. Is there any way it can be corrected? Just would like to know what I have. Thanks & have a great day.

    • Thank you for your request, owllady, I will let the team know. Thanks for being a part of Pogo!

  • GA Some of the marathons are manageable, others like the 20th celebrations are not, at least
for me. Too many levels to do. Its boring and tedious. I hope you will consider some
other goals now that a few new games or redos of old games are out. Like bookworm,
scrabble, addiction solitaire. Would like to see more marathon challenges for these
games please. The last cookie connect challenge I had to keep playing levels 1-10 over
and over because the higher levels with the purple monsters are too hard to get rid of.
Thats what I mean by being very boring. Airport goals are also tedious. Or those silly
blue roses. Lets make the challenges and goals more interesting and purposeful in the
    future. Thankyou.

  • I am excited about the cat badges! Finally my inner crazy cat lady will go have a ball. The very first badges I have ever purchased as a Club Pogo member were the Playful Pets album for its cute cat badges!

Speaking of which – Happy Birthday, Club Pogo! And thanks for the nice sale in the mini mall today. Looking forward to more great sales over the rest of this week.

I love word games, so Anagrams sounds intriguing – I hope you will publish more details about it in advance of the game’s release.

  • Happy birthday pogo thanks for all the many years of pogo fun! Also a big thank you to the pogo team for doing a brilliant job on the hd games many thanks

  • Thank you so much for all the free mini items. What a great surprise. Enjoying the new graphics in some of the games, there really nice. Here’s hoping Pogo will have 20 more great years.

  • shout out to pogo rachael !!! great work, thanks and please thank team thanks.love ya.

  • I really did enjoy being able to purchase a few of the State, Bird, Flower and Dog badges when you had them for sale individually. Unfortunately i thought they were going to be available longer than they were, and missed purchasing more. Is that option going to be offered again?? I Hope lol

  • Hi Pogo_Llama,

Another feline fancier here that just can’t wait for the Cat Badges and Claire Hart Episode 19 “Precious Paw” episode. I have 2 Tuxedo cats that like to watch me play Pogo.

I am also enjoying playing Solitaire Addiction….thank you Pogo for bringing back this fun “oldy”. And I have to disagree with the other comment, I much prefer the jazzy style of the music of Pogo Addiction Solitaire instead of the usual annoying music style that usuallyaccompanies the games that I mute.

And add me to the list of happy Pogoians that now have the opportunity to add more chocolate coins to build our shops in Sweet Tooth Town…

Happy Birthday Pogo! And Happy Labor Day Weekend to all!

    • Hiya Spurt!

I love the image of your two tuxedo cats watching Pogo! Love it.
Thank you so much and happy Labor Day to you as well!

  • I have been part of the tournament community but a few of my favorite games are gone. Also, I was made head or my team. I really never asked for, nor do I care to do the job. How do you get out of the tournaments?

    • Hi Jbkr62,

According to the Tournament “about” section:
“If you are a host and you would like to join a new team, start a new team or no longer want to be a host, you can delete the team or assign a new host. If you wish for the team to continue without you, you must assign a new host. In this way, the team may continue without losing its Ribbons or history. If you delete the team, the team’s name and past team achievements will be lost. All changes take effect immediately, so please think carefully and consult with your members. You may not delete or appoint a new host during the last two days of a tournament period.”

      I hope this helps!

  • I know I am delayed in this comment but I want to THANK YOU POGO TEAM for hearing our cries. You’ve fixed the graphics in Mahjong Gardens and added back the Geometric tile set. I can now work on this game without the terrible eye strain. The new geometric set is not only vibrant but clean lines help to find matches more efficiently. Thanks for your attention to the matter. Keep up the great work team.
P.S. YAY Mini Mall items… that was a HUGE surprise today LOVE IT, keep more coming please!

    • Hiya Joy,
It brings me great joy to read your words. Thank you for letting me know and have a fantastic day!

      • Can you offer the same change again. I did not use it; thinking it would always be an option. The next day I saw it wasn’t. It will be easier on the eyesight, so I would enjoy using the option. Thank you, and Happy Birthday!!

    • I agree with you JoyoJoy my(3rd name)Mahjong Garden I thought it was my glasses that made it bad to see the tile’s.

  • I’ve been a member since 2002…..ty for the enjoyment. Just a note re hidden items games…some of us, as we get older…our eyesight gets a bit worse. Games like Claire Hart are great since the colors make it easier to see. As time goes on, we sometimes have more trouble seeing well, and this is where the other plus comes in. It works the memory….may not be able to see it exactly, but it’s fun to remember where they are and voila…found it!!!! I realize that I’m part of a diminishing demographic, but ty for keeping us in the loop….AARP would be proud!!!

    • That’s so wonderful to hear – I’m really glad that you enjoy Claire Hart. Thank you so much.

  • Dear Pogo_Llama,
I rarely use power ups in most of the POGO games. I would really love to earn free episodes or gems instead of winning power ups sometimes. Thank you for all the work on the new games upon losing Java and Flash! Hopefully POGO will remain the great site it always has been!
    Sincerely,
    Friscos-mom11

  • does anyone know how to get 3 stars on every level I have replaced San Francisco over 900 times and have used every power up available and still cant get out of there

    • Players, do you have any tips for Realestelle for Jet Set San Francisco levels?

  • First of all, Happy Birthday POGO for 20 wonderful years, and I want to say I’ve been a member since Feb. 2002.

Pogo Rachael, when I first began playing Clue Secrets & Spies and Claire Hart I didn’t have a lot of time to read each case but now I read them all and enjoy them so much! I’m looking forward to the new cases in Claire Hart and I’m so sorry for the loss of your and your parent’s kitties! I, too, lost my “best friend” Bailey just a little over a year ago when she was 16 so I know what that pain is like. Precious Paws is adorable and looks a lot like my Bailey. :)

Also, loving the new games and the graphics are beautiful. Just a thought..I know the mini mall is no more but I was thinking how nice it would be for the art department to create backgrounds of the new games for our existing minis, they would be a good way to show off our love for the new games and our favorites. They could even be used as gifts instead of badges or along with badges. Just a thought. :)

Keep up the good work and I’m so anxious for the new Town Hall event in Sweet Tooth Town. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get the badge this time! :) Take care..Dej

    • Hi Dejfrompa,
First off, I am so sorry for the passing of your beloved Bailey. It is very hard to lose such a member of the family.

Second, thank you for being a member of Pogo since 2002! That is very honorable and thank you so much.

Third, you got this! I KNOW you will be able to complete the Sweet Tooth Town event. If you have any questions or need some help, ask on here or jump on the forums where players are discussing strategy.

Have a great week here in Pogo!

    • A semi related post, since cats are the sub-theme of today. My housemates and I have always have cats. We are very lucky that our local shelter is a “no-kill” shelter, and we work with a cat rescue that pulls animals out of the shelter who are most in need of help.

The point of this post is that whenever we have room for another kitty, we call the shelter and arrange for the cat(s) who needs the most help. Cats are different than dogs; they are much more unique as individuals…while you may have some suspicions what sort of dog you are getting if you rescue, say, a beagle, compared to a German shepherd, cats, even if they LOOK like a particular breed, often are completely unique in their personality. So, we simply ask for the one or two animals who need the rescue the most. We know whatever cats we get will be a matter of caring for them and getting used to them. We have always come to love them and they love us. If you possibly can, I suggest choosing the one(s) in need more than the appearance or age. I don’t think you’ll regret it. When the Thomas fire was roaring through Southern California (same time as the huge one in No California) our shelters sent out help messages trying to empty fosters and shelters prior to dealing with the survivors we will get afterward. We got “Missy” and “Big Boy”…we stretched our capability, but they’ve ben wonderful additions to the family since then. (That brought us to 6 rather than normal 4…now we’re down to 5. We lost Kira, who was 21, about 5 months ago.)

      • This is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing, SoCalSailor. What a big heart you and your housemates have. I’m also so sorry for the loss of your beloved Kira. 21 years….amazing.

  • No more daily bonus games?

    • Hi kjhflt_,
We do indeed still have Daily Challenges. Today’s are for Grub Crawl, Big City Adventure, and Mahjong Garden HD.
You can find the list on the right hand side of the homepage. :)

  • HI ALL,
I LOVE THE FEATURED BADGE/ IT LOOKS LIKE OUR CAT, BART.
    CATHERINE -115

  • Thanks for thinking of us cat lovers. Can’t wait for those cat badges! Valiant Viola is so beautiful.

  • I would like to finish the Sweet Tooth Town Challenge but, I haven’t figured out how to get out of the bakery. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

    • Hiya Burldoor70!
      Great questions!
To get out of the bakery, click on the button on the top left hand corner of the game screen. This is the “back to map” button. If you have any questions or need some help, feel free to jump on the forums where players are discussing strategy. :)

      Have a great time!

  • Hi,
You didn’t mention September’s GOTM in the blog today. Care to mention it now? :)

    • Quinn’s Aquarium ! :D

      • I have always enjoyed the Mahjong games, and play them often. Since M. Safari will be
September’s GOTM, I would like to leave a suggestion that could be offered to all players to decide.
With the new HD, the animals you see on the safari are not wild animals, for the most part.
Some I do not even know by name. Since safari’s are normally wild animals, why can’t the
game be only different wild animals that were not on the old version?
If not, could the new Mahjong Safari be renamed, and only include tame animals; like dogs, cats, birds, fish etc. that are tame pet animals?

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY POGO!! I joined Club Pogo in 2001. My favorite game then was Squelchies! I’ve had many enjoyable “relaxation” sessions on Pogo in the years since.

  • pogo you done a good job updating to new hd games. but when are multi-players games returning. like dice city rollers.texas holdem poker the list goes on, that’s why i joined pogo in first place !!!

    • Hello XmrbluesX,
Thanks for the comment and I’m so glad you’re enjoying the new HD games! :)
The team is working on multi-player games. When I have updates, I will definitely let you all know. Thank you!

  • Mt first pogo game and badge was pop fu

  • Besides the fact I’m very disappointed that many of my favorite games have “gone away”…Are the retirements over? So that the games currently available are the ones staying? I’m trying my hardest to find a some new faves…but habits are hard to break.
Thanks and a have a Pogo day!!

    • Hiya Jerry,

Thank you for your question. The next retirements will be for some of the Flash games on October 8. You can read more about this by clicking here.

I understand how habits are hard to break. What are some of your new favorite games that you’ve found here on Pogo?

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you Pogo! I’m anxiously now awaiting to play the newest feature of Claire Hart and especially reading in the’ Insider’ about Case #19, “Cat-Tastrophe,” and it being a ‘no charge to Pogo Subscribers.’ Yeah!! As a Pogo Subscriber who can’t purchase GEMS, I love it when we get a bonus! (smile) And I can’t wait to see the new Secret in the Shadows episodes about cats, sounds swweeeeet !!

  • I Love Pogo and all the Pogo Staff thank’s for all the Joy throughout the Year’s.

  • I Love Sweet Tooth Town. Thanks for the town hall special so we can earn some extra coins to move on. On another note, I was unable to finish Quinn’s challenge because it would not let me play in full screen mode. I am able to play all other games in full screen so I don’t know what’s up. I can’t see the screen in regular mode. Thank again

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY POGO!!!! WHOO HOO!!!
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR POGO,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! AND MANY MORE YEARS!!!
Also thanks for the FREE Mini stuff.

  • Happy 20th birthday Pogo. So much more has been happening this year Love all the marathons and challenges. Thank you for all the free items in the mini mall. Got them all today and will have so much fun dressing my mini. I am also looking forward to the cat badges. The Pogo staff rocks!! Looking forward to many more years of fun!!!!!

  • Llama, thank you so much for all the fun with the 20th birthday.
Such a wonderful surprise today with the mini mall items, that was awesome. I am loving the new games and looking forward to all the fun new one in the near future.
I also have to comment on the beautiful artwork on the badges lately, they are great and I’m so happy to see beautiful badges return. The Pogo Team is so talented, nice to see their skills in full view
Keep up the great work and heres to another great 20 years

  • Hi

I have a question for you. Why in the new Hidden object game about France the picture seems so very much smaller than in the other new ones you have brought out recently. I love all the HOG games and buy them all when they come out but I will have to skip this one. I love Pogo and play all the time and think you all do a wonderful job and our very good to us all. Just the size of this last HOG is not so good. Thank you for listening and hope something can be done.

    Take care all

  • Happy Birthday, Pogo!!! Your the BEST!!!

  • hi Lama just to say well done on the release of games in HD format I’ve been with pogo since day 1 I’m now going blind will you please bring out my favourite game JUNGLE GIN in HD just love the game and its getting harder to see it thank you happy birthday

    • Hi Taffy,

I’m so sorry to hear you are going blind. Thank you for being a part of Pogo and I hope you are able to see the new games with the larger graphics better.
I will let you all know if/when Jungle Gin is transferred over to HD. Thanks again.

  • Congrats to Pogo on 20 Years!

Oh no! Jet Set Solitaire is coming to Chicago??!! As honored as I am that it is visiting my home city, expect a delay in the release, access will be switched to a different game without notice, the site will crash because of unexpected crowds, weather will cause the name to be changed to “Kansas City”, TSA will take forever to check player credentials, points will be lost…but turn up with another player in Philadelphia, what should be a 5-minute game will turn into an hour because of maintenance issues, and the airport level will have a pre-level of battling through a striking pilot, flight attendant or baggage handler picket line!!

Other than that, I’m looking forward to it!

Good luck, and again, a happy birthday to Pogo!!!

    • HAHA! Thanks for the chuckle, Wonderful29! Don’t forget that pilots may be delayed in Chicago due to trying to find the perfect deep dish pizza! :D

  • Wish my favorite games could come back as HTML5. Really miss Hearts,

  • The yearly badge books used to only include those Wednesday weekly challenges, now some of the marathons and the birthday party badges are also included in those albums. Why is that? If someone chooses not to play, or are unable to complete all the badges, they won’t get credit for the yearly badge album.

    • Hello ABinMN,
Thank you for your question. The Marathon and Birthday Party Badges are originally in the Wednesday Challenge Albums, but after the event ends, they are moved to your Special Edition Album. Thank you for asking.

  • Started playing Pogo in either 1998 or ’99, my daughter introduced me to Word Whomp. Then I did Poppitt, and some slots, and was hooked. My very favorite was Tumble Bees when we could get hundreds of points, chat was on the side, and I made many many friends. We talked, laughed, congratulated each other on the high scores (except me, I never got the really high scores, but kept trying – lol) We all said we weren’t going to pay to play, but more and more of us started joining. Best bargain ever at Approximately 11 cents a day for 24/7. Think I joined in ’01? not for sure, but it’s been a long great membership, and I will continue. Some games I can’t play – Quinn’s Aquarium I’ve just given up on, and Poppit Bingo is a no go too. But most of them I dearly love. Happy Birthday Pogo!!
