Blog Post #112 – August 27, 2019

Hello Pogoians!

We’re just a few days away from the official 20th birthday of Pogo, and the celebrations are still going strong! I’m so excited to be celebrating this milestone with the amazing Pogo community. I’ve been with Pogo for almost three years now (in September!) and have been following Pogo since the early 2000s when my great-aunt showed me her favorite new game, which was on Pogo! I have so much appreciation for you all and am happy to share in this joyous occasion with you. If you’d like to know what is coming up for the rest of the 20th celebration of Pogo, please click here.

Claire Hart

New Claire Hart: Secret in the Shadows episodes are coming soon. Here’s Pogo Rachael to tell us what we can expect.

“This upcoming release of Claire Hart: Secret in the Shadows features two new cases for you to play; one is a little more serious, as it’s a murder mystery with Troy, Sara, and Will. The second case is just one episode, but it’s really special to me.

My mom is a big fan of Pogo, and she really likes playing Claire Hart. When we updated the game, I made a little nod to my parents in it: Claire and Troy’s cats are named after my mom and dad’s cats, in fact. A few months ago, however, the real-life Viola passed away. She was nearly 19 years old, which is a fine age for a cat, but it was still quite painful to lose her. A few days after Viola passed away, one of my cats, Emilio, passed away just shy of his third birthday. Losing a pet is always incredibly difficult; they are our companions and confidantes, and they’re often there for us in very tough times. I wanted to think of a way to commemorate both cats with a special storyline in an episode of Claire Hart, and the story that’s coming up is my way of paying tribute to their memory.

Don’t worry, though: the game version of Viola is just fine, and the story coming up soon has a happy ending.

The episode about Claire’s cat is called “Precious Paws” and it’s located in Case #19, called “Cat-Tastrophe.” That episode will also be available for Club Pogo Subscribers to play at no additional cost! I really hope that you enjoy it, and I hope that perhaps it gives you an opportunity to reminisce about some of the special pets you’ve had in your life. Thanks for playing!”

Here is a glimpse of the “Valiant Viola” badge.

  • A reminder that iWin Downloadable Game Center has retired from Pogo as of today, August 27th. Please click here for further information.
  • Internet Explorer 11  is no longer supported for HTML 5 games. Please note the messaging on the HTML 5 games. It reads like this:

  • Flash and Java Retirements – Java and Flash, two technologies that have powered Pogo games for many years, are being phased out across the internet. Support for Java has already been dropped from most web browsers, and Flash support will be discontinued by 2020. Pogo and EA have no control over this change in web technology. Because of this, Pogo is retiring some of the older Flash-based games from Pogo on October 8. (Please note the date change)
    • For the full list of games and additional information, please click here
    • For games that retired on June 4, please click here.
    • For games that retired on July 2 please click here.
    • For games that retired on July 30, please click here.

We know some of you purchased Challenges for these games you have not had the opportunity to complete. If you don’t get them done before they retire, the Badges will be automatically awarded to you shortly after the games retire.

Please note that while these games are going away, there is always the possibility some will be updated and brought back later. Keep your eyes on the Pogo Insider for more game news!

Every week I answer a non-technical question related to Pogo. We get lots of questions every week, so I try to focus on common themes or the same question coming from different folks. Please ask your non-technical related question in the comments section of the blog.

(For technical issues, please go to Pogo’s Help Page.)

Q. What is happening to Tournaments?

A. I hear you, folks. I know a lot of you are wondering what is going on with Tournaments, as several games have been updated and are no longer part of the Tournaments system. Unfortunately, I don’t have any updates on Tournaments at this time, but will let you know as soon as I do. As always, I let the team know, so stay tuned to the Pogo Insider for future updates.

Again, I want to say Happy 20th Birthday to this fabulous place called Pogo. If you haven’t done so already, please visit the forums to share your favorite Pogo memories with the community!

Happy Pogo 20th!

  • I have been a loyal pogo player since its conception. I was playing the games when they were AOL Games. I changed my POGO name from my AOL name for privacy. I hope I don’t get lost on all the changes. I also hope us long term players get special treatment, some where, some how, some times. I miss so many of the games that have been retired. Thanks for listening.

    • We’ll be here to guide you through everything, FlannleJammies. If you have any questions, just ask me. :)

  • Thank you for the birthday challenge. It was great and so much fun. Looking forward to September’s Magic Marathon.

  • Happy Anniversary to Pogo and I’m celebrating right along with you, as I started playing Sept. 9, 1999. Can’t believe it’s been 20 years.

Pogo Rachael, my sincere condolences to you and your parents for the loss of your beloved furry babies. We lost our 21-year-old Cinnamon and it was incredibly painful. Then I held my daughter’s sweet little Indy when he died, and was there at the passing of three of my sister’s fur babies. It is a horribly difficult event to go through, and I know every pet owner agrees. My heart goes out to all of you who have lost your best friends.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, Jett. I will pass this along to Pogo Rachael. <3

  • Hi, pogo Llama! I always look forward to the biweekly posts of Pogo Insider. You do such a great job! I am wondering what happened to all the multiplayer card games that had loads of followers. Is the pogo team planning to bring back any of those universally popular card games(bridge, canasta, hearts, etc) Please ask the pogo team and keep me posted. Thanks so much!

    • Hi splishsplash7193,
Thank you so much for reading the Pogo Insider. :)
The team is working on making new games and that does include multiplayer card games. It is a process, though, so it may take some time. However, I’ll let you know when we’re able to announce what’s coming. Thank you!

  • Love pogo cograts on 20 years

  • Happy Birthday POGO! I really love the Mahjong Sanctuary game. I had trouble for a few days with level 375, that was a tough one, but finally got through it. What I would like to suggest is when we replay a level it would be nice to be able to get some feathers for it. I realize you wouldn’t want to give the original amount, but 5 or 10 would be nice. That way when we get low on feathers and get stuck on a level like I did for nine days we could replay some older levels and build up enough feathers to get a power up. I can’t afford to just buy gems all the time, I’m on a fixed income. I have seen others in the forums wish that also. There doesn’t seem much incentive to play the older levels if you don’t get anything from them. Anyways, just a suggestion. Keep up the good work. Thanks

  • Thank you for giving us an update on the tourney games, even though you weren’t able to tell us what the future plans are for the tournaments, you let us know you hear us!!!

  • Happy 20th Birthday Pogo. Your site has kept me sane a lot of times. :)

Question: the year books for past challenges, how can we finish the book if we can no longer play the game for the badge? Are you going to replace past challenges with a game we can do? If not there will be a lot of year books never done. And no personal challenges to do.

Thank you for your time. Love Pogo.
PS can’t wait for the cat badges either. :)

  • Thank you so much Pogo Llama for changing the requirement for Sweet Tooth Town to be for ANY shop! I was able to finish the badge — thanks again for hearing our complaints!

  • I just wanted to thank you so very much for listening to the players, it is so appreciated! Can’t wait for the cat badges! Happy Birthday Pogo! I’ve been here for 18 years and have had immense fun playing on the site. And of course all the freebies are appreciated as well. Looking forward to all the new things the future will bring.

  • Way to Go Happy 20th Birthday POGO I been playing Pogo before it became pogo.com Had to go through Go.com in 1996 to play Pogo

  • Happy 20th Birthday POGO I have been with you every step of the way!!!! I love me some POGO and my badges!!!! I would like to see more levels in canasta when you all get a chance. Thanks!!!

  • Happy Birthday, POGO. Please bring back some card games, i.e., Pinochle, Hearts, Texas Hold-em. I really miss these card games.

  • So sorry to hear of the loss of part of your family – the beloved cats. We have always considered our pets as really an extension of our family. It hurts to lose them, but your always have some very good memories.

    • Thank you so much, ma_eskew. You are right, while it hurts to lose them, there are wonderful memories that make it all worth it.

  • Hi,I was wondering if there are plans to make bowling HD since its a flash game? I assume that will be removed in 2020.
    Thank you

  • I have really enjoyed the years of playing the games on Pogo. However, I called the help line for Pogo and they crashed my computer. I know now that it was a scam. Now I can’t get Adobe Flash on Chrome. So all my favorite games I can’t play. If I go on Internet explorer, I can get games but they are so small you can’t play them. When will this change?

    • Hello sandipage,
Please reach out to Pogo’s Customer Experience team. You can start the process by clicking here and then submitting a support ticket. Please beware of the scam sites out there.

  • Pogo player since 2001 and club member since 2015 I’ve been playing almost daily. Twice I’ve purchased maximum number of Gems and won $25 in a daily drawing. I’ve even won Gems on jackpot spins a few times. Making friends used to be easy but without seeing chat I’ve lost touch will all of them. Pogo and chat were sanity savers for the decade plus I was a 24/7 caregiver. Gifted sister a membership, she loved Pogo and since she passed I occasionally play a game on her account and think of her.

Pogo Llama, can we change screen name yet? Can’t find anything in Forum. Set up my name not realizing it was all caps and would like to change that.

Happy Birthday Pogo and hi to old friends.

    • Hiya Rustrat!
Thank you so much for your comment. Please know that Pogo is working on chat and when I have an update, I’ll let you all know. In the meantime, you can still chat on the side in most of the Flash games and also on the bottom in the HD games. Just make sure to enable Flash so it can run.

Screenname changes have not yet begun. I know this was something talked about awhile back and when I have more information on that, I’ll, again, let you know. :)

  • Looking forward to the release of the cats badges…just wish that we could get the offer of the dogs and flowers at 10 for 128 gems instead of 16 each…getting 10 for 128 like before I would get them all but not at 16 each….thanks for considering bringing them back at 10 for 128…

  • I was first introduced to this game site in 1998 by a niece. When the club came out and introduced both tri-peaks and mahjong garden I couldn’t resist. I have played the real game of mahjong for 45 years. Thank you for all the years of joy I have gotten because of this game site. I hope you are around for a long time to come.

As for the cats I am thrilled that you chose to honor the memories of your aunts cat and yours. I love cats. I have saved the lives of 10 kittens over the last 20+ years. I now have 5 ranging in age from 2 yrs. old to 14 yrs. old. They fill my life and my heart.

    • Thank you for sharing this with me, KentuckyKitten2! Thank you for beieng a part of Pogo since the beginning. (And thank you to your niece!)

  • Is there any hope that we might be able to play Cribbage sometime in the future? We have a group that has been playing for years … the primary reason we subscribed to Pogo.

  • I love Pogo and have been a member since 2002. I have filled all my badge albums every year until this year. I am able to get the daily challenges and Wednesday challenges usually. But since you’ve added the bonus challenges like birthday celebration there is no way I will have time to finish that album. I would like to see you have a different category for those bonus game challenges. Thanks for years of fun. I can live with the changes, it’ll just be disappointing not to see a filled album on my badge page.

    • Hi Debrick77,
Thank you so much for being a part of Pogo since 2002. I hear what you’re saying and I understand. Thank you for your feedback.

  • I see you didn’t answer the question Catballou322 asked. There many others of us wanting to know about the future of bowling.

    • Hello RJones949,

Thank you for your request for Pogo Bowl to be moved to HD. If and when I have any information on that, I will definitely let you all know here in the Pogo Insider. :)

  • Happy Birthday Pogo. I’ve had many good times and have made some wonderful friends on here over the last 10+ years. I’d be lost without Pogo. Speaking of which, would be nice to bring back DCR and I’ll second some requests for more Canasta & Gin badges. Thanks for all the free badges and mini items, it is very much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

  • i love the daily sudoku game, tysm for such an awesome game!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Pogo Addiction Solitaire; BUT, I wish you wouldn’t make all the games HD, at least in the way that they are. The animations hugely slow down the game and there’s no way to turn them off. I’m 35 and have been with Pogo since 2000-2001. I don’t want all the extra animations, side trips for bonuses, game-based journeys, etc. that are presumably super popular among children and young teens. I just want to play the games. On that note, I would love to see Battle Phlinx get upgraded for Google Chrome–again, just the way it is, but Chrome-friendly.

  • Pogo Addiction Solitaire Update

First and foremost, I want to voice my admiration for Pogo. I am an avid fan. My comments below are meant to be helpful, and not hurtful. I’ve commented before on the chat box feature, and received a response that Pogo is aware of the importance of chat, and that they would try to keep the chat box on the right side of the screen. You can’t chat unless the box is next to the game. This did not happen in your latest update.

To my dismay, the new HD version of Pogo Addiction Solitaire has the chat box at the bottom of the screen, making it impossible to chat AND play. I joined Pogo because it was unique in this aspect and has fun and challenging games. games, most importantly the ability to chat while you play feature.

I do beg the people at Pogo who adapt the games to PLEASE find a way to program the new HD games with chat on the side, so you may play and chat simultaneously. I ask that Pogo consider not updating any more games to HD, until this problem can be solved. I can’t imagine what will happen to Spades, and Gin, without finding a solution now.

From a faithful and concerned fan.

    • Hello C100080!
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your comment. I appreciate your suggestion for chat on the right hand side of the page. I can confirm the team is working on chat options to make the best possible chat experience for all of our Pogo players. A new Chat has not yet been implemented, but it is being explored. Thank you for being a part of Pogo.
