Howdy Pogoians,

Thanks yet again for stopping by the blog and reading the Pogo Insider.  I hope you all gain some helpful insight and Pogo knowledge from this edition!

Sneak Peek

Is your weather cold? Is your weather NOT cold but you can visualize cold? Well then come on right over to the Mini Mall on Thursday. Pogo_Rachael is here with the latest in what you’ll see for the Mini Mall “January Freeze!” She also asked me to let you all know that the January Collectible of the Month – a musk ox, apparently – will be released this Thursday as well.

Thank you!

Wow. I am amazed! I asked you all your thoughts on chat last week and received over 300 comments. There were so many comments that I was unable to personally respond to each one as I normally try and like to do. But seriously, the amount of feedback I received was truly amazing. I also learned three things:

  1. You like chat on the side.
  2. Many utilize chat to keep up with their badge stats.
  3. You love to help fellow Pogoians! Players like to read chat and are prompted to respond when a fellow Pogoian is having a game issue. You are all the best.

I love your comments. It’s my absolutely favorite thing and I’d love to respond to every single one.  I want to, but I cannot always do that, unfortunately. Please understand that there may be delays in my responses and that you may see your comment as pending moderation but that’s just because I’m busy over here at Pogo making things the best they can possibly be each of you.  Thanks for understanding, I really appreciate you all.

Badge Marathon

Remember when Pogo Sudoku, Aces Up HD, Jewel Academy, and Jet Set Solitaire all landed on Pogo within the last several months? What a great time. Well, now they’re all joining in to make for a fantastic event that’ll start on Friday, January 19th when the first Badge Marathon of 2018 begins. As usual, an informational article will be posted the day the Badge Marathon starts and you can look right here in the blog for that. I’m really excited for this one. I don’t know which game to do first, although I’ll probably start with my current favorite, Pogo Sudoku. My wish is for all to have a lot of fun!

Daily Challenge

I wanted to take a moment to talk about yesterday’s Mahjong Escape Daily Challenge. As I stated in the post last night, please understand it was not intended to have a Challenge in which it was required to purchase Power-Ups. In fact, the Challenge intended was for Poppit. Our focus here at Pogo is making sure all Pogo players have a terrific player experience and we will never require you to pay to participate in a Daily Challenge. I am working with the team to come up with compensation on the Power-Ups that were used. I will keep you all posted, but do not have any more information at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

Game status update

In a recent poll  I ran, I learned the number one thing you all wanted to know more about were upcoming game announcements. So, I’m going to make that happen. As often as I can, I’ll sit down with the Pogo team and get the latest info on which games are being worked on and what’s coming. I will always post more details when I have them available.

Jewel Academy – 40 new levels end of January
Cookie Connect – 40 new levels in February
Jet Set Solitaire – New levels being planned but not yet started
Solitaire Gardens – New content released 15th of each month
Mahjong Escape – New content released 1st of each month
World Class Solitaire – New HTML 5 game coming soon
Crossword Cove – Just starting to think about the transfer of it from Flash to H5. No date at this time.
Poppit! Party – No Update
Vanishing Trail –  New HOG coming soon
A Way with Words – New game coming soon

** A big, huge thank you to everyone who has utilized the Pogo Insider Q&A thread that has been up since the blog’s creation last year. As this blog has evolved, so have your questions, and I’m seeing many more questions pop up in the comments section of the blog. I love it! Going forward, I’ll be answering questions from common themes that I see in the comments. Thanks again; I’m so excited. Please understand that because of this, I will close and lock the original Pogo Insider Q&A thread.

Q. What is the difference between HTML 5 and Java and Flash? How do you tell the difference and why does this matter for Pogo games? Can you still play them if they change?

A. This is a fantastic question because I want to make sure the Pogo community knows exactly what’s going on with the games.

HTML 5 (which is also referred to as H5) is a programming language, like Java and Flash.  This language is what creates the games. When Pogo first started, the games were made in the programming language that was available at the time, which was Java. Games were later upgraded to Flash and now they are being upgraded to HTML 5.

New programming languages come about as technology changes and games can take advantage of new technology to look and play better. They also will provide stronger security.

Why does this all matter for Pogo games? In July, Adobe (the creator of Flash) released information about Flash no longer being supported by certain browsers by 2020. You can read about that here. Prior to that, Java made a similar announcement. So, Java is going away and Flash is going away. What will happen? This is where HTML 5 comes in as all web browsers are now supporting HTML5. Yay! This means that all HTML 5 games will be playable even after browsers discontinue Java and Flash.

Please remember that we are here for YOU. We absolutely appreciate all Pogoians and are working to bring over more and more Java and Flash games as well as make completely new games. You can bet I’ll keep you all posted right here, in the blog, with all of the latest information when it comes to your Pogo experience.

Thank you for reading this edition of the Pogo Insider. Have a really wonderful week.

Cheers,

Pogo Llama

  • Dear Pogo_Llama…Thank you so much for your very interesting and informative blog. I read it every week. I would like to thank everyone at Pogo for all the fun, all the free badges and all the challenges and marathons you do for us. I look forward to Weds. each week and now I see we are going to have 12 weeks to earn Zodiac badges. What fun ! I would also like to add that I would buy some Legendary badges but I don’t like them without color so I don’t buy them. And I hope Pogo will have another gem sale. I wanted to buy them last time but with all the Christmas expense I didn’t. It would be nice to have a sale in the summer.

  • I am really looking forward to the badge marathon beginning this Friday the 19th. I was beginning to have withdrawals from our site-wide and badge marathons. Seems like forever since we had one. Despite all the complainers I am here to say I love the badge and site-wide marathons and we cannot have to many. Thank you.
