Blog Post #24 – May 16, 2017

Welcome to Tuesday, Pogoians!

Wow, did that week go by fast or what?! (I know some of you out there said “or what!” ha-ha!) With the Badge Marathon and the Phlinx II Wednesday Challenge, my week zipped by. I ended up completing 5/10 Badges for the Marathon. My favorite one to play was the World Class Solitaire Badge. I liked being re-introduced to that game, plus I liked seeing all the new deck designs once I started flying from destination to destination. It took me two days to get this Badge and I spent a lot of that time chatting with you all, which I really enjoyed.

Please take this poll and let us know which Badge Marathon Badge you had the most fun completing!

Which Badge Marathon Badge did you have the most fun completing?

Sneak Peak

How do you feel about dragons? Okay, so how do you feel about BABY dragons? Honestly, once you see this preview, I would be shocked if you didn’t think they are super cute! Thank you to Pogo_Rachael for the Thursday, March 18th,  Mini preview.
“Dragons are always a frequently-requested Mini item and what can I say? They warm my heart, too. We’re offering a Limited Edition Dragon Mini Goodie this Thursday, May 18 in our Mini Mall. Here’s a little preview for you.”

Thank you for the preview AND for the cute baby dragon Mini, Pogo_Rachael!

Phlinx II

Some great updates were added to Phlinx II earlier this week! If you haven’t yet checked out the Phlinx II updates article, you can do so by clicking here.  Included in this article is a very informational progression chart. Many players have expressed confusion on how to follow their progress, so we mapped it out with the chart to help clarify the flow of the game. I hope this helps! Below is the progression flow chart.

Every week I answer a question or two (non-technical) related to Pogo. We get lots of questions every week, so I try to focus on common themes or the same question coming from different folks. To submit your questions for the Pogo Insider, click here!

(For technical issues, please go to Pogo’s Help Page.)

Q. Can you explain why the way you update new ranks changes?

A. Thanks for the question! Ranks are always an interesting thing to talk about and can definitely be something of a mystery. So the answer to this question about ranks depends on the game itself. There are some games where we have the ability to halt progress that was made after the final rank has been earned. Then there are the games where we can choose to not halt the progress after the final rank achievement. And finally, there are some games where we don’t have a choice either way. So with that in mind, I’d like to propose a question to you (with a poll attached)!

For those games in which we can halt or not halt progress, which method do you prefer?

When we add ranks to a game where we can grandfather in progress or not allow grandfathered progress, which do you prefer?

Wow! It’s a blog of polls this week! But you know why? Because we value and want your opinion. Thank you so much for taking your time to participate in these, and as we do take time to listen! Yay!

Oh oh! And for those of you who finished all 10 Badges for the Badge Marathon, the animated bonus Badge has started to be awarded so if you haven’t seen it yet, you will soon. Congratulations to all who finished all 10 and thank you to all who participated!

As I’m writing this, I’m looking outside at the sun. It is sunny, but a little chilly, here in the Bay Area. I hope you all have a very sunshiny day!

Happy Tuesday-ing!

  • I loved playing the games for the marathon badges. It was a challenge because I work during the day and only had the evenings to work on them. None the less I managed to get all 10 completed and can’t wait to receive my animated badge. Thanks for all the FUN!!!!

  • Hi !
My sister (Noreenf2000) and I have belonged to Pogo almost since the beginning and love all of it,except for the glitches once in a great while. The problem is that we are getting older, and our eyes aren’t what they used to be. Could you please make more games, such as Everyone Wins Bingo, full Page?
Thanks for the years of fun !

    • Hi ladyj98512,
I am absolutely in favor of more full screens. Thank you for the suggestion!

  • Thank You for the Badge Marathon and the Clue Sale this past weekend. Have a good week.

  • Enjoyed the marathon, except for one game, which is not my favorite. Stack em’

  • I enjoyed playing all the games. I have been a member of pogo since 2002. With this marathon badge I thought I had more time to get all the badges but I have found out the time limit lasted until Sunday night the 14th..I hope the next marathon last longer especially for those of us that work or are on a shared computer..Keep up the good work with pogo games..

    • Hi honeydewuidew2, I’m glad you enjoyed playing in the Badge Marathon.
Thank you for being a part of the Pogo Community since 2002. Wow!
Also, I had some honey dew for lunch. It is a favorite fruit of mine. :)

  • Had a great time doing the Badge Marathon. Got all complete with time to spare!
Phlinx II is not a game for me, but was able to go to Google Chrome to participate.
I do enjoy all of the challenges and look forward to your Tuesday blog.

  • The badge marathon was nice Thank You POGO , I do not think a week was enough time. I wouldn’t have gotten it even if I tried there are only a few games on pogo I do not play and of course 1 of them was in the marathon. I will enjoy getting the rest tho .

  • The very first day of the marathon, I could not use the computer, because of a line that went down in our area. I thought, maybe, that it would take three days, but luckily, it was just one day (what a relief!). Tending to many gardens around our large front, back, both sides of our house, especially with two cats to take care of, I thought I wouldn’t have time to complete the marathon. But actually, I’ve done it! We really DO NEED more time, just like in my situation and others in our area, because at times, the line goes down, and can’t be on our computers. It might be one day, or three days, or even, one whole week! I’m VERY glad to complete this marathon! THAT’S a a really great relief for all of us in our area (area code is very large)! Thank you for the marathon badge!

    • Congratulations on completing all the Badges for the Badge Marathon, prettywifey2!!!!

  • Greetings Pogo-Llama, I completed 4 badges (I think) in the marathon. It was fun however I work full-time and also have other obligations that keep me away from Pogo…. boo hiss :(

The little dino is a cutie and will certainly be in my Pogo collection.

This leads to a question that I’ve pondered from time to time regarding the mini goodies: It seems the majority of items are located on the right side of the mini character. There are some on the left but not nearly as many. Is there a reason for this or is the location purely at the discretion of the artist? Or…….. is it just a coincidence that most of the goodies that I select happen to be on that side? Just wondering.

Pogo-Llama, you are always so pleasant (and funny!) in your messages. Very refreshing :D

    Thank you

    • Hello MyTurnTx. Thanks for participating in the Badge Marathon. Work does tend to take up all the fun Pogo time, sometimes, but I’m glad to hear you were able to get 4 Badges done. I asked Pogo_Rachael your question. She said, “our artists worry that, because the play button is blocking the image, you won’t be able to see it all. That’s why we put it on the other side.” I do hope this helps clarify.
And thank you, I was the “class clown” in my 6th grade class….many moons ago hehe!

  • I really enjoyed the marathon and got them all. But, I thought bowling was the hardest because I had to play so many games before the gold pin came up. People were saying you had to be in a room with at least 20 people for a gold to come up. Ha! I tried that a few days, then signed into a room by myself and a gold pin came right up. I thought all the marathon games were well chosen and the badges required effort but were not overwhelming. Thanks again.

  • Awe what a cute baby dragon! Thanks! About the Marathon, I’m a Grandma… I really enjoyed each badge. I played my heart out. I had all nine badges, I did Cookie Connect last. I couldn’t get that game together, took me 2 days. I went to the forum and read the suggestions, I read the How To Play, I drove people nuts in chat, trying to help me. I finally got it to work! I needed 30 more to finish the Marathon. I did not make it in time. I’m blaming this on grey cells! Thank you for the free badges! Thanking all the folks in all the chat rooms for helping me!

    • Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that, Glendanhoward but thank you sooooo much for participating and I really hope you had a fun time. :)

  • Love Pogo! Can you think about new badges for Boggle Bash, Aces Up, Thousand Island Solitaire, Crossword Cove, Scrabble, Tumble Bees??? :-)

  • Thank You, Thank You….I had a great time doing those badges. Just when I was getting bored, you guys came up with this!!! Fantastic job

  • THANK YOU so much for fixing phlinx 2 – it was so frustrating trying to play a game that would not load or then would freeze no matter what browser i tried to use – i was not able to get the marathon badge because i just can not play a bunch of games that fast – next time could we have longer time please

  • in reference to cookie connect i m stuck at level 32. i don t seem to ever get enough power ups or maybe not enough moves?

  • I was able to do the 10 badges by the deadline and a few I did not enjoy doing and did not think I would get through them. Crossword is the worst badge or game for me since I had a very hard time trying to do one puzzle, took me at least 2 hrs to complete 1. It will be one pogo game I will not be doing much of if ever. But thank you for giving us them games to compete for the badges.

    • Thank you for participating and working your way through Crossword Cove even though that is not a favorite of yours. Congratulations on getting all 10 done.

  • Love the Badge Marathon, but sorry to report Phinix 11 is still not working! But other than that you all are doing good, so keep it up! Thank You!

  • I too loved the badge marathon. Finished it in a day and a half. Hope there will be more in the future. Keep up the great work Pogo

  • I loved, loved, loved the Badge Marathon! I hope it’s something we see again. Thanks Pogo!

  • I loved the Badge Marathon. The only suggestion to make it better is to give us a couple extra choices. I cold not complete all ten as I could not get the Stack’em badge. I never could get the jackpots. Could you please check out Phlinx II as you have to go back to the home page and restart every time you win a square.

  • While I was very glad to receive the new badges, I was one of the unfortunate ones to NOT be able to complete the new Marathon within the alloted time period. I didn’t even get past completing the 2nd badge because I became very ill the day after it began and almost ended up in the hospital.

I, like some of the members that have posted today, SO wish that Pogo would be much MORE considerate for the other CLUB members that do work at home, or at outside jobs; have something like illness hit them unexpectedly; had to try to find time to work on them, while also trying to complete their Weekly Challenges, AND their Team Tournament Challenges. Most of all to PLEASE remember that some people DO go out of town to go see their Mother’s and Grandmother’s, or have family members come in town to visit them, on Mother’s Day – at least here in the US they do!

Dear _Llama, Please ask Pogo to CONSIDER for the NEXT Marathon, to PLEASE extend the alloted time longer than 7 days (2 whole weeks like the one member mentioned would be very helpful), especially since they made them so challenging this time. Please remember, some of us can only work on them at night, and on weekends, but only if they DON’T have company come in from out of town. It would also be very helpful if they would PLEASE make sure that it doesn’t coincide with a Celebrated Holiday Weekend again.

Thanks so much for all of the information and updates you give out each week – we all appreciate it! : )

    • Oh no! I am so sorry to hear you became ill, Myrollercoaster3. I hope you do feel much better now? I will pass along all of your feedback. Thank you for the comment.

      • Thank you so much _Llama, yes, I am getting better, but continuting to have to rest more than normal. I would have LOVED to have been able to complete that Marathon – hopefully next time for sure!

Thank you so much for passing along everyone’s feedback – Keep up the GREAT work! :)

  • I would like to explain why ‘do not allow grandfathered progress’ is a positive choice. When Scrabble added ranks, I got them all. Never got the satisfaction of ranking up, nor of seeing the rank icons. I prefer to have the experience!

Hope this helps you to understand . . . it’s more fun that way!

  • The badge marathon was a great idea,I would love to see another one. My only issue was being on a business trip all week, so I was only able to get through 6 before running out of time.

  • Love Love Love the new baby dragon. Anxious to get it. Loved the Badge Marathon especially being free. Can’t wait til next one arrives. Have a great day.

  • Badge Marathon was great, really enjoyed it, missed finishing all 10 by half a challenge, due to holiday. Family always comes 1st and travel time & work did not allow me to finish Mahjong Safari. Oh well that’s life. Looking forwarded to the next marathon it was loads of fun. Even cancelled progress on a couple of M/M badges I was working on to try and complete the marathon, lol. Had so much fun trying would cancel progress again. Love the baby dragon.

  • The expectations for the Badge Marathon were way too many and way too high. I did finish but found it way too much pressure and stress to finish in the time allowed. When there were so many games that I really just dislike, having to finish that many of them became very boring and a hassle to complete. When they were finally finished, it had taken so much time that I had to hurry through the games I really would have enjoyed. There were people in the rooms that were so stressed out and trying to concentrate so hard that I visited several rooms where people were being nasty and short tempered with others especially those who were chatting and having fun conversations. I, myself was “yelled at” by a very irate player in Pogo Bowl who had been there so long trying that he was just totally frustrated and mean tempered with everyone. I saw alot of this. I also felt pressured to finish even though it took way too much of my time and I spent way more time that I would have normally spent on Pogo just to finish.

    • Hiya wvlibrary,
Thank you for your feedback on the Badge Marathon. It’s really helpful to hear why players feel one way or the other with specific reasons why. Also, congratulations on finishing all 10 Badges and thank you for participating.

  • I truly enjoyed the badge marathon, thank you pogo. Keep up and the good work and I hope you have another marathon sometime in the near future. I felt my membership was appreciated by pogo giving something back.

  • WoWza, POGO. Thank You So Much for the free badges. Due to time limit, I was not able to do more than a couple, but what a Great gift! I, too, look forward to your blog on Tuesdays~~It’s informative, community-oriented, and I play games that suit my mood (occasionally-lol); some are more relaxing, and some, especially timed games, I play to wear me out-lol. You and all the staff members Rock, and you all work hard to make our time in Pogoland enjoyable.

I hope you don’t drop my favorite games that use Java. Do you have any idea which games you might convert instead of dropping? I Love QWERTY, JIGSAW DETECTIVE, PYRAMID SOLITAIRE, CRAZY CAKES, MAKEOVER MADNESS, TUMBLE BEES, DAILY WORD SEARCH, and a few others I’m forgetting. Of course, I know that I don’t have any clout, but I’m wondering if you’re close to converting Java games to HTML.

Thanks again for ALL of your hard work, Pogo_Llama!

    • Hi songstress250,
Thanks for your comment. Thanks for participating in the Badge Marathon. I hope you continue to work on those Badges for the next week and have fun with them.
I’m very happy to hear you’re enjoying the blog. Any features you’d like to see added to it that we’re not covering?
As for the Java games we may convert, we’re always up for feedback on what the community would like to see. Thank you!

  • It was hard to vote on the “grandfathered” or “not grandfathered” progress for adding ranks to games. It really depends on the game. If it were Tri-Peaks, then yeah, grandfathered for sure because it is next to impossible to rank up in that game as it is! But for something like Hog Heaven Slots where you get the cute hogs in their different costumes to look at as you play, then no, I don’t want that game grandfathered. I was so excited when ranks were initially added to the game because I was so looking forward to earning the ranks and seeing the new costumes, but when I went in to play, I was already ranked out (and you had added TWENTY new ranks at that point!) and so when you made the game Game of the Month, I was afraid to go in and look because I was scared I was already ranked out again. Well, almost, I only had about four ranks to go so again, I missed out on most of the new costumes and didn’t have the fun of working toward the new ranks. So no, please don’t grandfather in progress on games like that.

  • Oh yeah, before I forget, I also just wanted to say thank you for the 10 badges for the Marathon. Some of the games were a chore (like Slingo Blast because I really hate the Slingo games) but I trudged through and completed all ten of them by Wednesday evening/Thursday morning, and managed to earn the animated badge. In spite of some of them being games I don’t like, it was still fun, so again, thank you.

  • Pogo_Llama,

I very much enjoyed the marathon badges. Thanks to all who made that happen. I think the animated badge is silly, but I am please I was able to obtain it. Also, I am very thrilled you Pogo folks cleared up the confusion on Phlinx 2. I am not used to Pogo reacting so quickly to customer needs. I also have a very good session or more, with using your help button and the people were very kind at helping me get back my 10 gems for a gate that didn’t unlock on Cookie Connect. I think they actually gave me 20 gems for all my my complaining. Very nice service from Pogo. Thanks for all you do to make POGO such a fun site.

  • The marathon was a great idea. I did try, but was unable to finish. Sad that I will not get the special badge, but I will still work on the badges until done.

  • Dear Pogo Llama,,, i love dragons! the more the merrier… but can a girl get a horse? maybe a horse i can ride and switch the back ground on to anything i want?.. you might of had one, a couple years ago? maybe ask if you can bring it back?.. or what about a griffon, or gryphon? head of an eagle, body of lion, wings. its a pretty cool fantasy item like a dragon. thanks, addy

  • I loved the badge marathon but had to go and search to find the badge that was awarded rather than receiving it as a gift which would’ve been nice!

  • First and foremost, thank you to all of the Pogo game designers. Putting out weekly, m-n-m, album, LE, AND 10 game marathon challenges and badges was quite the heroic feat! That being said, I’m just 1 of the many long time Pogoians that also work a full time job and find that it takes me longer to learn a game and complete a badge challenge than others. That’s ok though. :) I did not have the issues that many others had with missing badges, long loading times, or freezing screens. I believe there was a reasonable mix of games and difficulties to appease a good amount of members. I hope meeting new people in chat, relaxing, and/or having fun was had by all!! Thanks again to all at Pogo.

  • I not only completed the Marathon for this screen name but also for another Pogo account I have..Geez I need to get a life,,HeHeHaHa..It was a blast..maybe there may be different games for hopefully the next marathon…I have an issue with Mahjong Safari,,Its been an issue for many years,,My Original Pogo account has been a member since 2000..When you receive a gift from someone its their mini that should come up but has not been working that way for a long time..Its always my mini that comes up,,Its frustrating to have to find them in the room to open up their mini snapshot because it is so nice to be able to see whom gifted you..If you any clue why this is ,,or if you need a snapshot,to see if you dont understand, what I am talking about ,I can do that..! Thanks for making Pogo ALL that it is, THE GREATEST GAME SITE ON THE WEB :)

    • Thank you for your comment and kind words, Foxy. And…thank you for playing in the Marathon! Congrats on finishing it for TWO Pogo accounts. WOW!

  • I only have Windows 7 and could not load cookie connect on Chrome , Firefox or IE. I did do several of the badges and enjoyed the ones I could do.

    • I have IE and played the cookie connect just fine and have windows 7.

  • The Badge Marathon was perhaps the best offering by Pogo in the 12 years I have been a member. Please do it again soon. I finished all my badges in 3 days!

    • Wow! Now that’s awesome that you feel the Badge Marathon was perhaps the best event in 12 years. Thank you, Awriter49!

  • I love the Marathon 10 badges that were picked. I enjoyed every game and it was loads of fun. It was relaxing for me. I spent many hours playing and I finish them all. I started Monday morning and I was done by Wednesday afternoon. I believe the 1st set of marathon badges were successful. I hope we do it again in the near future. Thanks again Pogo Team. Mon3124303

  • we need more weekly challenges. not many to choose from anymore

  • really enjoy pogo games thank Pogo

  • Good Morning, Pogo_Llama and all the other members who have responded to the blog. Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed The Badge Marathon ! I really have a better grasp on the Phlinx II Game now after having played it for the Marathon Badge. The flow chart helped me understand it also, so thanks for that. I managed to win all 10 of the Marathon Badges and awaiting the Special Animated Badge.

Also , looking forward to the mini release that Pogo_Rachel has given us a hint about. I love dragons ! I have one baby dragon emerging from its egg and the one showed in the blog is just as cute and I will snatch him up for sure. Dragons make nice mini pets!

Thanks for all you and the rest of the gang do for us! I’m off to my games now. Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

    • Thank you so much for your thoughts and comments, Librarymary1. A wish of a wonderful day to you, too.

  • well ty for the chance to attempt the marathon, and of course to still have the badges to work on the following week! I spent the weekend visiting my 1st Grandson ( I have a granddaughter ) and sorry pogo no matter what you had to offer…it wouldn’t have stopped me from taking that trip. I have to say he is beautiful and healthy and his parents love him and each other, what can I say but life is good! The best Mother’s day present anyone could get! I hope everyone had a beautiful Mother’s day too!

    • Congratulations on your 1st Grandson! I’m so glad to hear he is healthy and doing well. All the very best to you and your family.

  • Everthing is just fine keep up good work

  • I would like to know when pogo is going to add more rooms and ranks to pop it bingo? also if our xp points we have earned will go towards the new ranks and rooms? Loved the marathon, got all the games.

  • Thank you very much for the badge marathon. I thoroughly enjoyed it, finished all but one (World Class Solitaire), lol, the one you finished first. I certainly hope you do this again. I met some really nice folks that were ready to share tips on how to complete the badge. Thanks!

  • The Badge Marathon was great. I think it took me 4 days. Loved them all. Keep up the great job. Have a great day

  • Had fun with the Marathon. Let’s to it again, but not for a while. I need to rest up!
